Well,it looks like the bar has been raised in the privately owned SUPER high performance aircraft category...there are privately owned MIGS (19-29),an F4 phantom,Harrier...but this one is something else:an SU-27 Flanker...be sure to click the video links...hmmm..if only my powerball #'s come up!

There are several F-104 Starfighters, (the "rocket with a man in it" ) based at St. Pete/Clearwater Airport in Florida. These were designed purely as supersonic interceptors during the cold war. They could sustain Mach 2. I believe that they are still occasionally flown at air shows.

My old attorney owned a F4U Corsair had it based at Van Nuys airport.

ANd talk about the F104 I know of one in Burbank, California but its stuck on a pole up its keester 20 feet in the air.

Ah, an educated consumer! The D model is truly the only way to fly-the upgraded engines and all the upgraded avionics to go with them.
