I read through a few of the posts regarding this, but I don't want it out front on the fender. If it's on a staff on the right side rear of the cargo bed in the rear most troop seat hole, I won't go to **** will I?

I have two 3x5 flags on poles that I use to do Patriot Guard Rider events and I will put mine in the front right corner of the bed side rails while they sit out in front of my house. I would put one in the front right bumper if I were driving somewhere.

There is probably a "Proper" way to display the flag on a Deuce, but I say display it where you want.

Display it where it shows well, & where it doesn't block your field of vision.

& Display It PROUDLY!!

One consideration might be to shelter ir from exhaust soot....
No one wants to see a flag covered in black spots.....

The following is from Supply Line (August/September 2009). The article is appropriately called "Displaying the U.S. Flag" I edited it down to the highlights that are related to the question. I hope it is helpful:

Position and Manner of Display (Title 4, #7):
a) The flag should not be displayed on a float in a parade, except from a staff. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff should be fixed to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.

...When you fly the flag from a vehicle in a parade, remember the the rule about prominence...the position to the right of the object of attention. This means the flag should be to the right of the driver, preferably mounted securely to the right, front fender. It is a common mistake to fly the flag from the REAR of a vehicle but remember the rule... the United States Flag should hold the place of PROMINENCE, not "runner-up".

when having my deuce in parades, I use 3 hose clamps and attach the masts to the mirrors....as stated above the flag must show prominence, just remember it must be the highest point whether on a float,duece,truck,etc.. having it mounted to the mirrors definetly makes it highest point......

I would prefer to see the flag on the right front as well. Sometimes I put a small one on the right front bumper and then a large one off an antenna mast near the cab.

that is why i put the flag staff on the left side to keep it out of the exaust stack and it does not create a problem with vision and trees on the left side.

Whle following both of these Flag Display threads, I will agree that this Country affords you the right to fly the flag any way you choose. Take time to thank a Vet today for securing that right. as for me, I'll do my very best to respect OUR FLAG by following the reccommended guidlines put in place by the government it represents. My personal experience is that it has much more meaning to those who served during the second world war than any other group. Having worked around veterans all my life, ( worked at VA hospital since discharge from Army - almost 32 years now) I'll try to honor their service more than what i think looks good or is convienient. But mine is just a personal opinion and carries no weight with anyone but me. When it comes down to it let your conscience be your guide - you have that right- thanks to a veteran.

Well, once you know the code, I'm not sure why you would choose not to follow it? I think that would be considered "disrespecting" the flag, which is also against the code.

If you can't display it properly on your truck, then you shouldn't display it at all, IMHO.

Fly it right or not at all. Any other presentation is disrespect. My department got new graphics for the motorcycles a few years ago. They superimposed our department logo over a flying US flag. There were two problems. One was never put a logo covering the flag which was what had happened in this case. The second was that the graphic was the same for both sides. The flag should always be displayed as if it was flying in the wind. The other left side of the bike had the fly or trailing edge facing forward while the canton was to the rear. No flag would fly like that and it should not be done. That is why there are reversed flags for were on the right shoulder that have the star field facing forward.
I brought this to the attention of on of our motorcycle officers when I saw it. He sheepishly admitted he was the one that came up with the design. He then said he has been told this several times and each time it was by a veteran. I guess being in the military instills a sort of formal feeling to the display of the flag. I know I work extra hard to make sure my display is correct. Of course the military really instills attention to detail and doubly so when the flag is involved. I am a veteran and it does not upset me to see the flag displayed improperly. I inform the person and if they were aware or if they are unwilling to change it then I take this as disrespect of the flag. When you are told the right way and you do it the wrong way then you are disrespecting the flag and the flag code. Remember, freedom is not a trump card to do what ever you want. This is a free country with rules. Please care enough about the flag to present it properly.

I am not calling anyone names here, just a quick lesson on english vocabulary.....

The ORIGINAL definition of the word IGNORANT was: <noun> one who choses to IGNORE. Modern english has forgotten this formerly popular meaning. I found it in an unabridged dictionary published in 1928 - and even then they noted it as a now obscure definition.

Now, how does this apply to this thread....

If a pollutant pollutes, and an irritant irritates, that obviously, one who choses to ignore is an IGNORANT :!:

Therefore, once you know the proper way to display the Flag of the United States of America, if you chose to violate that protocol you are simply an IGNORANT. (Or as General Patton would colorfully announce: "You poor ignorant bastard".)

IMHO: Fly your flag correctly and respectfully, please.

M35A2 all decked out for the parade. Flags all over the place!
This was everything I thought it would be. Wonderful people all along the route, the Deuce grinding along nicely in low 1st and 2nd, blasting the horns and watching the bystanders jump!
To all the Veterans a HUGE THANK YOU and SALUTE!
