proper glow plug?

What I have: 1986 cucv 1008 with a glow plug problem. I replaced the GP relay. It cranks and blows white smoke, but wont turn over. It has a recently swapped out rebuilt civi 6.2. The truck is still 24 volt. It ran for about a month after the swap. GPM appears to be running properly. Is there a particular glow plug I should be using. The first batch were touted as being THE cucv glow plug.

this very well could be true, as truck has been sitting a while. When the truck went down, i got wait light and gen light flickering while driving. it kept running.after i stopped it,it sat a bit and then wouldnt start again after cooling down.this was colder weather end of last winter. would still like to find out what the proper plugs are as well.

I replaced the GP relay.
What gp relay did you use? I used the BWD S603 from Oreilly's.

I have a M1008 and changed my gp's to 60g's. I also changed the connector tips so I don't have to file the gp blade. Another thing I did was the gp resistor bypass and replaced the gp relay.

My truck starts easily and runs great, even with the cooler weather. If I push the fuel pedal before I turn the key I get some white smoke. When I wait until after I turn the key to push the pedal it is hardly noticeable. The gp wait light takes about 10 seconds on the first start and less after that, if at all.

EDIT- and I could not have done it without sound advice from this forum...

Get ac60g and make sure you have your resistor hooked up or convert to 12v. If that doesn't help it may be a fuel leak or air in fuel

What is the GP resistor bypass? I can see in your pics that you rerouted the power wire for the GP relay. Is that basically converting the GP relay to see 12v without running it through the resistor? Is there a tread we can reference for this?

That would be a welcome sight right now.

Is there a specific online retailer you would suggest to pick these up? Or can I go back to Napa and give them that part number?

You need to do a search on the topic, then tell the parts store what you want. They have no idea about the CUCV and will many times sell you the wrong part.

GPR109 installed, GP controller card hot

Read this on the gp resistor bypass and don't confuse it with a manual gp override. Read the whole thing as there is some good pictures and information in the thread.

Ok the truck 6.2 and the blazer 6.2 both use the ac glow plug. And its much better of a glow plug than the local parts house ones. The ac plug can handle more of a beating than parts house ones. Ive used theses on the truck at the firehouse and my personal Blazer. They take a beating. Good luck finding the problems.

I would make sure I have the right relay using the one doghead listed or the S603 since that is what you changed. Then read the manuals posted by mistaken1 and troubleshoot cautiously, meaning don't just go changing things and making the problem worse.

You said it ran before. From your beginning post it looks like it could be a gp problem or fuel problem. The action you take for each is different. Maybe try and find another local CUCV owner to help.
