Yeah, um, about that. Its been a busy summer and bla bla bla. The new Hewitt gauge hasa different hookup than the Stewart Warners. So to swap back and forth I would have to change the prob and leadwires too. I have compared my temps at idle and running with other trucks and get similar temps, so I am going to let it ride. Sorry for the let down. Hows that saying go? Something about best laid plans...

Do you still recommend the Hewitt gauges:?: At least you're an honest procrastinator. Thanks for the response:!:

Hey Gimp! Back in March you were going to get back with us about your pyro. Did the project get put on hold:?:
Did you ever get your Hewitt gauges going? I ordered a boost and pyro today with red LED back light, white numbers, black bezel, and black dial. Maybe I'll have them in, hooked up, and a baseline before you!;-) Daylight's burnin'!:-D

Got the Hewitt installed in Kipman's truck. It worked great, but is smaller than the SW gauges and harder to read at a glance. Not a deal breaker, just wanted you guys to know.

If you have seen any of my trucks with the pyro zip-tied to the steering column, picture the same thing, but with a smaller gauge!

Mobileauto, the gauge panel looks great. Personally, I wouldn't want my pyro mounted there though. Mine is mounted on the steering column so I won't have to shift my eyes much from the road to see it. When you've got the fuel turned up close to redline and in a hard pull you need to watch the pyro closely.

Don't get me wrong, I like the looks of what you did but am just giving people something to think about before the mount the pyro in the center of the dash.

Reviving this thread instead of starting a new one cause that's what we should do, anyway, I'm installing 2 pyros on a friend's truck right now, I already know where and how to do the one after the turbo. But, I want to hear from you on where to put the pyro before the turbo, back 1/3 of the exhust manifold or front 1/3 or try for the center section, the manifold is off the truck and the turbo is off the manifold so I am not worried about drill or tap chips, just best location from some of you who have done it and are happy with results. I tapped both in front of the divider and behind it. I plugged the front port, but can use it anytime I want. I was told the rear gets hotter than the front, so I used that one. No problems EGT related so far. I am happy.

Thank you guys, I agree on the rear and have it all set, putting the heads back on tomorrow. The head gaskets were not blown but bubbling oil and stuff out along the edges a tiny bit, when I got them off, #2 firing ring had actually made a .010" mark in the head, so had to shave the heads more than the recommended .002" to .004" and cut the valve seats to keep from raising the compression. This was with the most updated black, one piece head gaskets installed before the truck was turned in for auction. I think we will be fine now. This is an LDS 465-1A that was installed in a deuce during it's life in the military. It is a real serious goer. JT out

I don't like to hear that JT. Mine is an LDS that leaks enough to coat the whole pass side of the block. Not looking forward to doing the head gaskets.
