Question on aftermarket parts and fitment

Is there a list of aftermarket parts that fit on the drivetrain and suspension?

I most likely snapped my rear half shafts last night (or worse) when I buried my m998 up past the doors in snow. (Bad idea fairy was strong). I am mechanically inclined, just never done much on the hmmwvs before. I have a 91 M998 soft top.
Wondering if anyone has put in beefier T case, aftermarket hubs (greased vs the oil bath), pretty much anything dealing with suspension, drive train etc.

I'd assume spec wise, if I can find half shafts that are same specs but higher rating there wouldn't be a issue same with much of the rest.

Try the Hummer Knowledge Base for aftermarket cross-references. As far as Half Shafts, many have had good experience with those from Advance Auto / Autozone. They are the 10K versions with ABS sensor ring, which is not needed typically and some remove it.

The hubs work just fine as is, and I've never heard of anyone breaking one no matter how stupid they were being. The oil bath system works fine, provided you actually check fluid level once in a while to make sure it's still filled to the correct level. I've never actually heard of aftermarket hubs for these.

Halfshafts are the weak point. This is actually a good thing, because they are relatively easy to access and easy to replace.

The autozone shafts are imports, chinese made. For the price and lifetime warranty you can't go wrong if you don't mind chinese made parts, otherwise stick to one of the main parts distributors like MacMotors, Kaskar, HPG, or the AM General website.

Other than that, if you want to start swapping out transfer cases and differentials and such, deep pockets and good fabricating skills are kind of a necessity.

To prevent this from happening in the future, read up on BTM: Brake Throttle Modulation. While common in the off-roading world, it's an essential technique for HMMWV operation:

Firstly, we definitely were not driving properly. I got it fully knowing offroading/driving through my cornfield etc was going to likely break shit.

Finally got time to look at it. And at the moment it looks like it'll be some knuckle busting fun as the V belts are all out of their grooves and way worn out (1 was completely broke) grabbing some tomorrow and hopefully the guys are done hooking up the vehicle lift so we can start looking at the underside to figure out what we broke in that area.

Thanks for the post definitely worth the read. Drove hmmwvs for 10 years in the military never once was told this. Probably should've been common sense but I'm not exactly a rocket scientist when it comes to 4x4 type stuff

Why does it look like the belts are on inside out?
Because they jumped off when we were being idiots apparently. Had to order the alternator belts. Got it all put back together.

Started it up sans alternator belts and putting it into R or any drive theres a loud clunk after a few minutes and the front is the only ones spinning. Back end tires move when we towed it a few feet to push snow but otherwise only the front end spins.

Engine works so worse cast scenario is a new transfer case or driveshaft or differential.

Maybe a little less beer and a little more behaving older than 30 in the future?

it might be as simple as the cable needs adjustment.

it might also need a replacement or rebuild.

I was sober when we went out. That's the worse part lol you'd think my common sense would be not to drop off into a non maintained road lol

The X-fer case shifter mechanism cable/rod/thingy/doo-dad
