Swiss and Mrs. Swiss (Tanya) did a phenomenal job with yesterday’s remembrance of Ron. Ron’s heart touched many as evidenced by those present yesterday as well as those offering up thoughts & Prayers on-line. Breaking of bread and spending time around the fire yesterday with the SS folks was real and meaningful.
In his own way, Ron taught us all many lessons. His knowledge, attention to detail, and passions always made an impression on me. For Me, I will say his name daily less I forget. Here’s to my Brother Ron.

Hi every one, sorry for the late post. I wasn't able to login for some reason. But yeah finally.

I want to Thank each and every one that was able to attend our celebration of life for Ron. I loved meeting so many people that I had only know by name. And if I missed meeting any one, my apologies.
My family and I are forever blessed and greatful for your generosity and all your help.

For those who were unable to attend, I thank you for raising a glass and the thoughts and prayers that day,

Ron has so many wonderful friends.

Swiss,Tanya and Dylan, you are an amazing family, thank you! You put so much time and work into the memorial and it was perfect.
I know Ron loved it and is honored to be on that hill looking over things. He loved you guys as do I. I am glad he is there.

Thank you Jeff and son for all your help.

This picture is awesome and was taken prior to the trail ride to the Memorial Service. Briggs knew going up from Leesburg that we were paying Respects to a lost friend and was still cheerful. We made it home Safely and I asked Briggs why he seemed so happy and carefree in the picture. He told me that "Mr. Ron talked to me many times at Rally's and Veterans Day Parades and never wanted to see me sad." I honestly didn't know they talked that much but was made aware both at the Memorial Service and through Briggs words that Ron loved kids. When I first got home I was a little tired from the trip but that conversation lit up my day.

Had a moment today standing in line at tractor supply. There was an older gentleman in front of me checking out. Short in stature. So Ron's build. Guy asked the clerk if she gave a LEO or retired LEO discount, she said no. He asked if he could get a veterans discount on top of that, she said no. Then asked if he could get a senior's discount. This reminded me of Ron very much. Everytime we stopped even if it was for a cup of coffee he asked the clerk for a veterans discount and a seniors discount. Even when we got our hotel room at midnight. When we got fuel for the PLS we were standing in line and I told him they didn't give discounts for fuel so not to ask. He just grinned and shook his head at me.

Thanks for sharing that precious memory.
I trust he's looking down upon us all with a smile.

Lest we forget

Poppies_1.jpg

Today it is one year ago that Ron, our good friend and fellow Steel Soldier member, died. As long as we remember, he will not truly be gone.
One year. Oh, how time passes.
It seems like just yesterday that this devastating news slammed our SteelSoldiers family.
Ron was quite a man.
I remember.
I hope others do as well.

Thanks for the reminder.

Hello I’m trying to find guys that knew my late dad Ron w Harris. I just found this site a few days ago. Please reach out.
I’m glad you found us. Your dad was a fixture around here for many years. He loved his big green iron and was always happy to impart his wisdom on new members. We still miss him an awful lot 😔

He was a great guy, helped many as admin said above. changed my avatar the moment I heard about his passing. There's plenty to read in his posting on here. He lived for the 'green crap' (my wifes description of my sickness), anything wreckers, lifting, rigging, modifying but always towards the heavier stuff. I once made him a tool, one that he didn't know existed - British army wrecker operators issued 2 per recovery vehicle - wheeled or tracked. Swiss and big Jeff got one too.

@Peaches When I put my motorcycle helmet through an A$$holes CUCV windshield your Dad was the first to call me on my way home to give me sage advice. Keep your helmet on Steve.

And now Zout has passed and who could forget your Dad betting that he could flip a hamburger at Zout's house with his wrecker. He did it.

He is missed.

One of the best weeks that I had traveling was with Ron when we helped move a buddy from NJ to NE... Ron and I bobtailed a M915 back to NJ and he had me in stiches for the entire trip (minus one hill where we were really glad that he fixed the Jake brake before we hit the road...). I'll have to dig up a few more photos from that trip, but this one is proof that he and I were there... ;)

That trip was one of my best memories of Ron as well...... and for another return trip to NE from NJ, he agreed to drive one of my wheel chocks (ahem, cucv's).

I kid you not, he saw a plastic viking helmet sticking out of a box, grabbed it, and wore it on that trip in the cucv. He also messed with some guys by taking a bite out of a milk bone dog biscuit while giving them a dead stare-- that got some interesting reactions as well.

Then there was another time,on one of the convoys, we had an aggressive guy in a modern jeep flip us off as we went by and then try to cut Ron off-- he was driving one of my semis and sent the guy as he put it "on a path of new discovery". I like to think that guy got a lesson in respect that day.........

I really liked Ron and really do miss him.

I will share a prank I pulled on Ron several years before we lost him---- There used to be a website where you could type in a number and send an interactive voice message from Santa-- I chose Ron and he got a call from Santa telling him he would get his two front teeth for Christmas. I got to listen in on the conversation and the interaction was hilarious. I talked to Ron not long after and somehow the Santa thing got brought up. He was convinced he was talking to Wreckerman and thought Wreckerman was messing with him. In all fairness, the person playing Santa did sound alot like Wreckerman-- I eventually told him it was me and we had a good laugh after that one............ (Wreckerman, I do not know if I ever told you this, but if Ron pranked you back, no harm intended)........
