Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

In the meantime, I have created a drawing according to which I can rework the adjustment tool for the load brake valve.

After I was able to acquire one of the few still available, I do not want to destroy it. Inserted and thus set the tab must be drilled away.
So I made a drawing after which I connect two parts with a screw to remove the tab after setting.

I would like to suggest a couple things:

GM removed the rear brake proportional valve in 1988. See GM Bulletin 88-320-5. 88-320-5 Chevrolet Technical Service Bulletin (tsbsearch.com)
Secondly, your oil fill cap needs to be vented in order for the crankcase vent to work properly.

Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work. You are really close now.

Service Bulletin - thanks for let me know this! also if i will not follow that procedere as this is not a recommondated removal of stock condition Trucks:
"Occasionally, vehicle modifications by body builders or owners influence the height sensing
device. If a vehicle has had rear suspension modifications that affect its trim height or the
spring rate, and the driver comments about the brake modulation characteristics of the vehicle,
it is recommended that the height sensing system be removed and the brake system be revised
as described below...."


I will have your note of the oil fill cap in my mind (y)
The enginebuilder will know about that issues and i have warranty on this job
It is not a DIY Build - it comes from a specialist shop of 6.2 and 6.5 engines
So if occurs later problems will this be solve by warranty

We are in rebuild for history registration and that mean stock condition which we want follow in all. Just Things we like to have additional (lightbar, Dacota digital, different steering wheel) are all only build as an addon and can be undo without traces at any time. Replaced original parts remain stored. Thats the only way to hold the highest value in that rebuild if the Truck will be sold one day from our son as heir to our estate.

That mean of course not that we dont like to have modifications - we restricted this on the Truck only of the history registration
In the Rebuild of the Sierra, we have all options open to us, which we will then use

Yes as it is allow in Germany and dont prevent the history registration
Beside this an engine with all recommondated upgrades to prevent known problems will have more value.

All what was in the buildyear of the Truck available for the model like liftkits is allow nevertheless a military truck is never lifted.
I have given up questioning the double standard in judgment. An optimizer is not allowed, but the original block that was rebuilt to 6.5 is ok.
But this double standard allow us also to stay with our lightbar and brushguard. ;)
I have cleared all modifications with the Historyregistration authority.
At the moment, I am again discussing getting the original Military pintle hitch street legal for me in conjunction with a military trailer. There are reference cases in Germany. The restriction will be - if my request is granted - exclusively in use with military trailers.
Until now the military hitch is noticed only to use for shunting purposes

Well, your laws about historic plates are easier than ours. Good to know.
Yes history registration is not that difficult in our build.
Engine change is difficult - for history only engines allow which was in use in that type and buildyear.
The overdrive transmission and change on rear disc brake are allow of fuel economy and safety
You need always before you change the stockcondition to consult the authorities of history registration to be sure you will pass it.

our law is tighter - no other parts allowed in historic plates. OK, tires, battery and wiring changes are allowed (with right time cloth isolation of course).
We have for all rules and norms to fullfill. 😅

Usually you found different interpretationen. First info was i dont got an approval on the military hitch. My TÜV Engineer said if i can show a reference case of a street legal in Germany, he examines the possibility again. So i go now in the 2nd round with 2 cases of streetlegal from military hitches 🙃

completed the Trailer with Cover, Frame and Can ...
didnt need so much diesel as on the flat trailer was not a wardrobe like the M1102 😂
The seller is one of the less dealer of military parts in Germany

i dont want that pastic shit but i take the cover as a template for the upholstery to rebuild a canvas cover
Like all original parts will be the cover stored - it is used but without any damage

My "personally" Engineer for road approval will visit our shop (thats not usual, the issue that he is a friend of our son and study together with him machine engineering will be the reason :) ) to check if he will approve the military hitch with the military trailer in stock condition.

We will go on with the trailer after the Chevy and Sierra will be finished
The check today shows we need some parts as the preowner change on a civilian old 7 pin wiring (new wiring is on 13 pins). He changed also all bulbs on 12V (which we also had to do as the chevy have 12V) and done a strange wiring - they set the blacklights as turnsignal and destroy with that the taillights. The original towing eye is also destroy for the civilian version.

So we need

New taillights
original Military wiring harness
original towing eye
the straps which hold the can

And to make the day finally worse - our 35 years old torque wrench from gedore thought it is a good time to die :devilish:
Now i can buy a new one from Gedore 20-300 NM which i want already since some years... i was only waiting that the old one failed

Brought the Duramax to the enginebuilder and take our old 6.2 rebirth as 6.5 back home again :love:

Used was anymore only the block and the camshaft - all other is completly change
The crankshaft was in size not more to be remanufactoring as it has already the biggest bearingsize
I really wonder what was happen 1989 to the engine
all pistons drilled on last oversize and now the crankshaft shown the same

Our transmission will not be here before End of February so we still have to wait for a first run

It's amazing.
This is going to be the best restoration of a CUCV ever.

Eventually I'll make it through this video, and then think about pressure washing the dirt off my engine.

It is still the old original 6.2 block drilled on 6.5 with 6.5 heads and a 6.5 IP

For increase HP i need a new roadapproval with changing truck papers. There is now 156 HP documentated. Hp is also a measurement here for insurance. If i miss this have the truck no streetlegal and i lost the insurance. But this is no probelm as it was used the original engine remanufactored.
With an optimizer i had the high costs to got an emission approval as the engine have no emissionteststandards in Germany.

Was the injection pump mechanical or electronic?
