No, I have insurance. The wheels of the State of Texas grind excruciatingly slowly. I'm waiting on my plates to get here (it's been close to 2 weeks) before the lady at the tax office will title and register my truck.

As for the WHY... well, to avoid having to pay $700 or so to get it hauled.

You can get insurance without registration? Texas is different.

Yes, Beeville. And yes, I am getting this deuce come hell or high water.

Yes, I signed for it and left without it.

The EUC came back only yesterday after 5 PM, so I was under the impression that I had 14 days per govliq's policy to retrieve it. HOWEVER, when I talked to Chester, I told him I would try real hard to get it by Thursday (I was trying to be accomodating and keep him in the loop) and that I would call him if there was a problem. He then told me I had better get it by Thursday, because that's when he gets his "list." It sure sounded like a hard deadline to me.

This one did not have a rag on it. However, they did switch the event and lot number on it between the time I won it and when I went back to look at it again after winning. It's the same serial number and everything else matches up so I know that this is the same truck. Why they did that, I have no idea.

Andy, relax. Have a home brew. It will get running or I will die trying.

Do you have any pictures of the oil pan damage? That right there is pure stupid on their part. I know it was perfect last time we looked at it.

That is precisely what he told me last week. He also 'indicated' that GL has put alot of pressure on him to move the Deuces out. Accordingly, if you don't get your truck in the 14 day window subsequent to EUC approval, you lose the truck. The reason for this 'pressure' on him, is that apparently 40K more Deuces are coming into fort Sam in the near future for liquidation.
40k?

If they auction off 350 trucks EVERY WEEK for the next 2 years, they could do that.

I don't think they have the space for 350 trucks.

That just ain't gonna work, when you consider the long time frame govliq HQ is taking just to send EUCs out to battle creek.

eta: The wild rumor I heard was 3k trucks. :D

Nope, but it;s two nice crumples inward about the size of baseballs.

There's some scratches and gouges on the bumper too. My sherlockian powers of observation lead me to believe they rammed it head on with a forklift and the forks crunched in the oil pan. auarofl

mmmm... home brew.... capital idea.

If you're feeling up to coming over to Ft Sam tomorrow, fine, but don't push yourself. Your health is not worth saving me a couple hundred bucks.

Cheer up Andy. Small chance of rain tomorrow but it won't be blistering hot.

Yep. It was actually a nice day to pick up a deuce today, too. I don't think it got over 71F the entire time.

My beer freezer certainly isn't cyling very much with the outside temp at 68F, either. ;-)

Once it is signed for it is your truck that was abandoned in his lot .
The 14 days after EUC is approved assuming you do not sign for the purchase.
just keep in contact with chester and he is more likely to work with you .

I hope so. Thanks for the info, I'll remember that for next time. I guess I've potentially screwed myself by trying to be the eager beaver and signing it off real quick like when I didn't have to.

Well, I got it started. Really. Checked the fuel system from inlet to return with master switch on. Checked manifold heater while cranking and got smoke so there is fuel at the other side of the head. Checked engine stop and it was all in. Took off the engine stop cover and saw a problem, the collar control rod was all the way down and indicated by the arm, meaning NO FUEL! The arm should move all the way forward under spring pressure but something was holding it in the off position.

When it started, it wanted to go to full engine speed so I used the stop handle to shut it down. Reset the engine stop and tried again, this time just partially pulling the engine stop. This had the engine running at 1800 RPM. But the throttle is still inop.

Since there is a massive air leak on the rear due to Gl damage to the gladhand valve cracked, Andy is arranging a flatbed for the morning.

Now all I have to do is fix the governor-throttle linkage, swap out the busted valve and it should be running!

What is the TM for the injection pump? TM 9-2910-226-34P...GOT IT.

Cool...just raced through TM 9-2910-226-34 and it looks simple. Either the governor is gummed up or the op rod is dragging on something.

All the seal wires were intact (removed the throttle lever cover one) and this is a 1992 Toole Army Depot overhaul. Fuel density compensator has been removed but can be reconnected, they just used bypass hose.

How hard is it to replace the governor end? I would assume timing would not be affected...and since the hydraulic head is fine, this is a much easier fix, just "engine clean", not "clean room clean".

I think the problem is the connection of the control rod to the control collar. The engine stop solenoid forces the collar all the way down, preventing any pressure from being made in the hydraulic head. The only thing I was not too sure on was how the governor is connected to the control collar. And I had no stainless steel tie wire, otherwise I could have probably fixed it. Well, better do it at Andy's as it will be more comfortable. And I can pull the left fender off for access. And have TxRedNec there to be my gofor.

glad you got it going :-D
its still a great deal and when they are all gone the $1000.00 deuce stories will sound like the $60.00 jeep stories from WW2.
Hope you can make the TX rally when we finally get it set up .

Thanks!

Now for the Root Cause Analysis...something isn't right on the inside of the pump and from the TM pictures and diagrams, it looks like it might be the control rod which links the governor to the control collar. Almost as if some jack leg pulled the engine stop and hit full throttle, causing the op rod to bend/jam OR the control bellcrank boss to jump out of the control collar.

The control collar's position is what determines injection quantity (IQ). The op rod position is determined through the throttle position AND engine speed.

Basically, the pump input is at engine speed. The input from the front first spins the timing adjuster which advances timing as engine speed increases through a flyweight system. After the timing section is the hydraulic drive, a 3-lobed cam which causes the single fuel piston to move vertically. The piston also spins at HALF engine speed, this is the distributor system as the fuel flows into a central hole in the piston, then out one radial slot which aligns with the bore for the proper injector. So for every engine revolution of the engine, the piston moves up and down 3 times and makes 1/2 turn.

The piston's central bore continues on to one more radial slot. This slot is blocked by the control collar. Since the piston is moving vertically to pressurize the diesel, height of this collar on the piston determines duration of the injection and the quantity of the diesel injected.

Aft of the hydraulic section is the governor section. This is another device similar to the timing section, only its purpose is to limit collar height when engine speed increases, keeping the engine from becoming scrap metal. The throttle is SECONDARY to the governor, the governor has absolute authority.

This problem isn't new! There is nothing new under the sun...

Go to the image, that is it although this truck doesn't have rusty safety wire...

so what are you looking at to fix it exactly? do you think it's simply gummed up, are you going to have to take something apart and twist on it or are you thinking part replacement?
