Removing stucked brake drum

Hi forum.
I think I'm too stupid for this type of work, but I'm not able to remove both brake drums on my M10278.
  • I use air from the emergency gladhand to release park brake
  • wheels are of course removed, little rust between rim and drum, but nothing special
  • drum is completely firm, no movement at all (except of course the rotating of the wheel)
  • hit with a hammer on the back side of the drum, rotate it 45 degrees, hit again, nothing...
  • I use a 500g hammer, hit on top and bottom of the back side of the drum. no movement
  • also tried to spray anti rust into the screw holes.
Maybe I'm using the wrong tecnics, wrong gear or I forget something? It seems so easy on the manual and on the youtube videos...

Where did you put the bottle jack? between drum and springs? Both sides?

I use a bottle Jack to push it of.

OK, will give a try. Did you put it only on 1 side, or on boths sides of the drum? was your's also completely stuck, no chance with hammer?

Yes between the spring and edge of the brake drum. Maybe use some wood to.

I have used an 8 ton harbor freight jack in this manor. Works great!

OK, seems that I'm not alone...
I immagine you start on front/back side of the drum and then the other side right? Also use the springs for holding the jack?

I don't see mentioned anywhere that you caged the brakes. Did you? If not, you're never getting them off.

Edit- just re-read: does the air in(?) the gladhand release the drums?

Thank to all, now I need only get of the stuck oil drain screw from the hub cover.. With a lmtv you don't need a woman, every day a new task, never annoying :)

Nice bottle jack trick always works , Drill a hole in the hub cover and hammer in a torch bit that you put on a ratchet

Ha!, I had mine working on brake air lines. She actually liked it until I told her there were another 500 lines she needed to replace along each rail in the hot sun.

Stupid question you sure the brake can is fully caged? Myself if truck is ok then I air up the truck release dash brake button then install my cage bolt. Tight it just a tad bit more but do not over tighten. Then if need be pull parking brake dash button to keep truck from moving while working on it.

But how where did you put the bottle jack for front drums? back is perfect, but I have no idea where put the jack on front axle...
