I decided to replace my cold advance thermostat in my m998. I thought it would be easy but can’t just unscrew it from the engine. Everything is in the way what’s the trick to removing it? Is there a special tool ? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am not saying to do what i did but, one day i was checking around my engine compartment and found the cold advance sender blown (probably due to a short or something) i taped and zip tied the leads and it has been like that for quite some time now. I haven't had time to get to it and replace it even though i have it on my desk to do. Mine is very accessible on the right rear side of the engine.

I just unplugged it and used a large adjustable wrench from inside the cab (if I remember right).

Ohh and remember it goes into a water jacket, so you MUST drain some coolant!

If you are convinced it is bad after testing it, cut the wires and use a deep socket.

Adjustable or standard open end wrench.

Crows foot with extension will also work.

Cut the wires off and a deep socket with extension will also work.
