Your fuel injectors are calibrated to work with your injection pump so just be happy with what you have. If General Motors could have made more reliable power out of this mechanical system, it makes sense that they would have. The new diesels use Electrically controlled injectors and precise timing to make more power so that won't be happening with your old design system. If you want to make black smoke then you can have a rebuilder modify your Injection Pump and Injectors or just install a rebuilt Injection Pump and Injectors and be happy with an engine that runs like new.

Well I know that Predator Inc has upgrade kits. I was just wondering if there was other simpler options. Predator also makes a full engine conversion from the stock engine to a 6.7 cummins engine.

The injectors can flow more than the IP can put out stock, so swapping injectors to get more hp isn't going to happen till other items get beefed up.

Does anyone know if the stock injectors and fuel pump of the Hummer H1 6.2l is interchangable with the humvee? I know the two vehicles are virtually the same.

Well before the first question is answered, does the old 6.2l hummer h1 have more hp than a stock humvee (M998A1)?

The stock injectors will flow more fuel than the engine can handle as well as the IP if you turn it up too high. (The pump can flow more fuel than a stock turbo can handle as well) 6.2/6.5 "performance" or "marine" injectors are a gimmick. These engines are IDI in design. Meaning the injectors sit inside something called a precup, not actually the cylinder. These injectors are very basic in design. They're nothing more than a pintle design. Once pressure is reached the pintle rises and a spray happens until pressure reduces. (If I've lost you on this, go look at a metal garden sprayer on a water hose. The pintle is that point that when you pull the lever moves and allows water to flow around. That's the basic of it, only instead of your hand, there's a spring in the injector keeping it closed, then fuel pressure works as the lever to open up the pintle) Anyhow, from this you can see how this injector design doesn't lend to improvement much. At least not at stock levels. What you're paying for, if they actually do it, is to have the injectors pop-tested/balanced. Some of them might increase pop-off pressure. Which will increase power slightly by changing injector timing. (Increased pressure means it takes more pressure from the IP, then it means a faster close as well.)

You can get more power out of the 6.2 by turning up fueling than throwing parts to it. Also note, the 6.2/6.5 platform is not one that lends to major power increases. Anything over tweaking the pump and having a turbo (set to over 12psi) and you're risking it.

before doing any modification to a 6.2/6.5 you need to add an EGT gauge(exhaust gas temperature gauge), I believe the highest recommended temp is 1200, any higher you can start melting pistons, and blowing holes in the head gaskets.

first things to look at are the pressures and fuel from the injection pump-old/used pumps have less pressure, and turning up the pump just means more fuel, not more pressure- adding injectors with a higher "pop"(marine, high HP injectors, and all the fancy mumbo jumbo companies use to market injectors) can sometimes create a loss of power, as the injection pump can barely overcome the "pop" pressure.

I think to test the injection pump is around $100 if you can drop the pump off. then you can also test the pop of the injectors at the same tie-most offer free testing if you get another service done(like testing the pump)

another thing is engine health-poor ring sealing or high crankcase pressure would not fair well for higher hp, you'll just end up shortening the life of the engine.

Smoke is bad for a 6.2/6.5, they were not designed for the high heat that smoke creates, if you want to be a d*** and smoke people out, and waste fuel, get a Cummins or Powerstroke,


powerwise, almost all the 6.2's were the same, civilian or otherwise, emission related components(like intake) could rob some power, but I don't believe the H1 had much emissions stuff that differed from hmmwv

if you do want more power, I would look for a 6.5 NA or even a 6.5 centermount turbo, both options would be easier then fitting a turbo to a 6.2 in the hummer-this is more because you will need new heads for the centermounts turbo, and most times it is not much more to get a whole engine, after adding up the cost of each component.
