Reviving the 83 ford with LDS 5 ton drive line

Im looking for some advice for keeping this drive line or going to one im more familiar with. I inherited a 83 ford F350 with a continental 465 LDT in it, it is the original trans and T case for the motor as my grandfather pulled them out of a old Deuce. Im not really familiar with these drive lines and have been doing lots of reading but still in the dark. Im very very familiar with the Cummins 6bt and 6btas. Would like to know how they compare in power and reliability and how hard is it to get parts for the LDT. As for parts, ive been looking on line and have not found anything other than "surplus motors". Also this thing was running as a commercial trailer puller up till 3 years ago. My grandfather pulled trailers with it everyday for about 8 years. So i know when it was parked that it was in great running shape. Its done a good bit of sitting since then. I know i need to clean the fuel system and change the oil, is there anything else i should do before trying to run it??

Its got the old military auto shifter in it. From what i know its out of a 69 Deuce that was used to pull the missile launchers. I have pic of the out side now. Ill post pics of the engine shortly as the trucks an hour away at my folks. As you can see the radiator is the grill as there was no more room. The shifter that is in it has reverse neutral drive 3 2 1 and is a old military shift linkage. Again pics to come

Most people talk about putting a 7.3 engine in a deuce to replace the LDT, not the other way around. That has got to be one beefed up front end to handle that weight, but I bet it had enough torque to pull those trailers easily.

well picture will show that it is infact a multi fuel, the radiator is i have found out from my dad out of a old GMC delivery truck. the trans tho is Auto and attached to the LDT multi fuel. Waiting on pic from my Dad. At the latest it will be tomorrow. as for the 302 im not sure what your referencing
