S cam air brakes on 809 series

Has anyone upgraded brakes to s-cam air on an 809 series truck?

If an 817 were made to 4x4 and 16.00 on it, going to air and s on the rear would seem to be good mod for safety. Are air lock differential available for 5 ton?

Yes @74M35A2 has em

If you are going 4x4 just use an fds1800 in the front and a HD meritot rear that will have Detroit lockers and s cam brakes already

I've got an FDS-1807, 18000lb capacity. 6.17 gears. Budd. Hub to hub. 72c drive yokes Has wedge brakes cause that's common on steer heavies. $1500. With springs/hangars and steering cylinder $2000

I've got a a meritor SUHD meritor unit. 6.17 with. Detroit . S cam. Hub to hub budd. 1710 series yoke. $2000

$2500 if you want a selectable air locking 5t rear axle. Has 5.8x ratio and hydro brakes but M939 air backing plates bolt right up to them as well.

I have all 3 positions, and 2 Detroit Locker nuggets for 5t as well.

How about a selectable diff air locks with wedge air and 6.17 gears??? The ratio of 809'appears to be 6.44 and I see gear sets for the 6.44 ratio are available at reasonable cost....wonder about a 6.17 set of gears to match the Meritor?

Doubtful on gears

TracTech Inc makes em.

I' know you can since the front tandem on the 916s is an air locker.
