SEE Exhaust Pipe - Any one have source?

I am looking for a source for a SEE exhaust pipe. Its the one after the muffler that heads up to the spark arrester. Its part number 410-492-71-04 (NSN 2990-01-242-3009). As usual the NSN pops up on various NSN sites but my experience is they are a dead end. I have dropped a note to Expedition imports, they have a muffler and a spark arrestor but the search for the pipe doesnt come up.

The annoying part is over the years I have kept an eye on auctions and have the header pipe , muffler and clamp. They look good but the downstream pipe is toast. I may just buy some pipe and hack in patch but would prefer to just to it once and be done.

Thanks, I always check with Scott as his inventory is extensive, I may do a short term fix in the meantime. Of course the rusted out section is in the absolutely hardest to reach spot. I think its time to remove the useless equipment storage box between the frame rails so I can get at it easier (I think the box was omitted on later builds)

It didnt help that yellow jackets must have a nest nearby where ti was parked. I moved it and let it set for few hours before they stopped buzzing around.

I lucked out, the bottom of the pipe near the muffler was paper thin and missing but several inches up it was solid. I cut it and patched in section. Of course the place I need to get to connect up the pipe to the muffler is very difficult to get to. I took a break for the day and will go back at it tomorrow.

A word of warning, the pipes and the muffler are not one diameter. There is an adapter connector between the muffler and the pipe that I needed to shim up.

I got the fix together. No pretty but it works. While bolting things up I realized why this section of pipe is not available. My guess is the header pipe and muffler are Mercedes Benz standard components while the stack pipe that runs up to the spark arrester is custom to the SEE. It probably was fabbed by whomever fabbed the rear platform that was installed in the US.

Where exactly is the storage box located on a SEE? Mine (1987) doesn't have one, or perhaps it was removed. I see in the manual that there are two different tool storage boxes, one smaller one located behind the backhoe seat and under the fuel can mount and another much larger one located next to the seat. My SEE has neither box.

With the backhoe deployed its between the frame rails behind the backhoe seat and ahead of the cab, This one sits lwo and has fuel can mount near it. It just bolts in place to the frame rails. I was looking at yanking it out and putting the air drye r and the purge tank in its place to given hem more protection than the current location of the unloader valve.

Thanks. I have an M35A3 that has a Haldex air dryer with a 24 VDC heater. It works quite well and something similar would fit quite easily in that space. I was actually surprised that the SEE didn't come with an air dryer.

I agree, my Mercedes 1300 which was being produced at the same time for the German military had an air dryer. Its a superior system.
