Shift points have changed

Yesterday before my P/S pump bracket broke on me I noticed the shift points were not where they usually are. First gear wound out a long time, and then shifted hard. Second to third was the same way- I wondered if it would ever go into third. At first I thought it was the modulator- but I put a new one in about 4 years ago. So I begin to think it might be a split in the hose?

The transmission fluid is fresh and clear and right where it should be. Could the injector affect this? Or the Inj. pump? What's that little clear glass ball do when it gets dirty- I havn't cleaned it in two years or so- could this affect shifting?

NOTE: I tried the oil additive to the fuel coincidentally, about 4 days ago- near a qt to a near full tank. No idea if this matters.

Same with mine, turned out to be the 30year old rubber connections loosing the vacuum.

I replaced the rubber vacuum lines about 3 years ago. New modulator as well. I cleaned the glass ball in the valve on the IP yesterdays and had another look at the modulator. No drip when the rubber hose was removed, so I assume it is good. What I did find was a loose fitting rubber hose- it was probably a little too large diameter to start with so the marginal wear in three years was enough to compromise the seal to the modulator. I changed in a smaller diameter piece and voila my shift points are restored.

I love resolved threads.

Yup, mine shifted hard at 35 then also at 40. I put on a new piece of rubber line, and she shifts real nice, 25 then 35. Feels like a different truck.
I love a 50 cent fix.[thumbzup]
