Post 4: was it empty ? I remember trying to drive one loaded with a M105 hanging on the back and it was dead on its feet. You could become dead when it shifted ranged and either caved in your skull on the back of the cab or threw you against the windshield when it downshifted. We regretted loosing the M37s and M38s, but when the M 211s left about the same time no tears were shed.

Yup they shift rough no question about that. And yup when towing something that drags them down. I used to do a lot of flat tows of M37s with it and oh that was awful. Loaded in the bed was not bad.

The transmission is the weak point on the m211. With a shift kit and a few other mods the transmission can be greatly improved. The 302 is a strong engine . classic hot roders like the 302 for its durability and ease of high performance modifications. Doing the upgrades on the engine and trans the tricky part is the governor setting and trans linkage.
