Spent a little time on the locker manifold. Had an error on one of the solenoids "open or short" so I couldn't engage the front locker. Also saw an inactive code for another solenoid issue. Taking a look at the manifold solenoids they were in rough shape. Lots of corrosion in the plug that would certainly cause future issues. I got some new solenoids and connectors are wired them up, new flyback diodes as well. Tested and working as it should now!

New connector:

New valves, coils, connectors, on the original manifold.

It's nice this is all standard components, nothing is specific to military except for the manifold. The connectors, solenoids, coils are all readily available off the shelf parts with many manufacturers.

For documentation sake do you have the manufacturer and the PN for the parts used?

Connector: Canfield Connector 5100-1010000 - you could use normal spade connectors in a pinch.
Diodes: 1N4007 tons of different manufacturers of these.
Solenoid coil and valves I pulled off another manifold. Coils are Metal Work Pneumatic 882765

I didn't use, but here is a compatible coil with good availability: W0215000101
Another connector: W0970510051

No pictures but good steps.
Bolted the locker manifold in place and bloodied my knuckles getting all the air lines back on.
Checked oil in all the hubs and thankfully all was golden. No milkshake, all gears looked great too (as much as I could see though the hole). I did find a stripped plug but I'll figure out a way to remove it. I ordered 12 new Parker plugs and won't tighten them with a breaker bar like the Marine who did it last. (No hate, they seem to have done a fairly competent job maintaining the truck).
Then took the truck around the neighborhood with my kids. No plates or title so keeping it to side streets. Way more power than the MTV (C7 vs c12, and C7 has 3000lb more weight). Turning radius is pretty terrible, lots of multi point turns. Maybe if I get really ambitious I'll do a rear steer. Truck shifted great, lots of power, Jake brake worked as it should at all settings. Got back home with nothing breaking.
Lots of work to do but since this was the first drive in the daytime, it was a bit of a significant event for the truck.
Kids loved it, it made more and louder noises, and was faster than the MTV so they were happy.

Playing around with a few ideas.
Both are 13' tall. Both connect to the cab and back window area - those two panels to be removed and create a large passthough to the habitat.
This one uses sliding expandable sides like normal RVs use: 2045 ft^3

This one uses folding sides - similar to how many expandable shelters are built. This allows for further expansion, but also has some limitations. 2416 ft^3
1736087950712.png

The slide outs encroach on the interior a lot more when collapsed, whereas the folding ones keep the center floor fairly open so you don't have to worry about mounted things moving as much - like sink shower etc.
The folding is a more complicated mechanism with folding panels that must fold out in a certain order.

Volume of shipping container is about 1300 ft^3

are you building it yourself? will you be sourcing some kind of retractable kit/system or will you be building that yourself as well? is there space btwn the top of your camper and the cab? does the cab and bed flex under certain offroad conditions/approaches?

Check out the YouTube videos for 5 tons of discovery. They built a similar system onto their fmtv with rollout sides.

Building myself the whole thing myself. There will need to be a gap with accordion seals, or similar. MTVR bed is rigidly mounted at the rear and spring captured at the front. The cab is also mounted with shocks in the rear so there will be a fair degree of movement between the two.

That's basically a standard component called a slip ring. We use them in the automation world a lot connecting electrical devices on the ends of rotating elements.
It is! Last time I worked with a big one, it was off the coast of Angola on a pipe lay barge. I designed, built, then on site supported a laser scanning system to inspect the interior weld of the pipes.

Had to climb a ladder to this spot to do testing on the slip ring as we were troubleshooting some issues.

New ether setup arrived today. Kbi were very helpful and the engineer said this is the replacement part number. Recommend a new blockor assembly (that 90 fitting/filter/orifice) on the bottom)
