Your 'looking' out for actually. Anyway a logical way to work out the firing order is to remember that Number one cylinder is usually at the front of the engine.
And that the rotation of the Distributor is usually Anti clockwise.
The firing order of a six cylinder engine is usually 1-5-3-6-4-2.
Thus, when you start out to change the leads trace Number one from the ist plug to the distributor cap and tape it as Number one.
Next lead going from the second plug going to the distributor head anti clockwise tape as Number two.
And so on.
