how do you make sure nobody steals your rig if there's no key? I assume the doors lock (I hope)? If not I think I'll retrofit a locking handle at least. DOes the hood lock?

There is no lock on these. First you put an electrical cutoff switch for the batteries in the battery compartment where no one can see it and this shuts off batteries. Then you put a lock on the battery door. Most of the trucks we have seen have a chain welded to the floor long enough to wrap around the steering wheel and then you put a lock on it. We have also put a lock on the fuel cap so no one can tamper with it. There is a tool box handle that will fit the door and lock. We have not done this yet to the door.

I cut the wire to the start button and put in a hidden on off switch under the dash
so that button will not work till switch is on fast cheap and works

I've come across a few trucks that had a chain wleded to the inside of the hood that you could wrap around the grill and padlock it.

Most of the Deuces we looked at while shopping around were "theft proofed" by chaning the steering wheel to the seat or floor, and then padlocked. You could start them, but not go anywhere other than a straight line

SOme had padlocked battery boxes (probably just unhooked the cable from one of it's terminals)

The best thing you've probably got going is that most people can't drive stick, and don't know that deuces' don't use keys to start with

yeah, I figure if somebody who knows what it is and really wants it they'll get it. We live in a bad neighborhood with lots of foot traffic, but if anybody got an idea to take it I think they'd get spooked by all the switches and having no key hole to jam a screwdriver in, and they'd leave it

If that doesn't scare em, the lack of power steering should, and if it's nighttime, $50 says they can't figure out how to unlock the drive lights :D

Don't forget the dash lights too! They'd probably use a flashlight!

when people ask me if i will let them drive my truck, i tell them that if they can start it i will let them take it for a ride. 95% of the people cant figure out the whole flip switch / air intake knob concept. half of them cant find the starter button.
if you live in a bad neighborhood a hidden cut-off switch would be your best bet, you never know who knows how to do what. all somebody has to do is come on this forum and ask questions and they could figure out how to start a truck
