Speedometer keyway

While troubleshooting an issue I've been working on, I noticed that the keyway for the speedometer key looks like the below picture. They keyway is not what I would call a well defined square profile. It almost looks rounded off. Is this how it is supposed to look? This T/C was removed from another vehicle and I bought it to use on a 4L80E swap on my M998. I was having some problems with a pulse generator I used to replace the mechanical cable. I noticed the key was rounded off a bit and a bit twisted. So I'm trying to determine if I did not get it seated far enough into the keyway or if the keyway is bad. I'm not sure what it is supposed to look like but in my feeble mind, I picture it being a more defined sq keyway. Thoughts?

typically on older civy vehicles, that would be a female hex and yours definitely looks rounded. Does it turn?
It did turn, the pulse generator was getting a signal and then all of a sudden it wasn't. The dakota digital pulse generator threads on there and the key goes into that keyway. As it turns, it generates a signal for the controller.

I guess I'll have to pull that part out of there and see what version I have to order a new one.

I may never get out of second at the rate this project is going.

All the best. Something had to be not happy to round it off; possibly the cable or speedometer are not freely turning? IMHO, you need to find the gremlin causing you grief.

Turns out after pulling the speedo gear out, the key broke off down inside there so after getting the key out, the keyway actually looks pretty good, square and much deeper than in the picture.
