I would clean up the contacts and reassemble and try it but would also consider a new one. How does the commutator surface look on the motor? Brushes? Check them out too and clean up while you got it out.

Now is a perfect time to install a rebuild kit. If not, sand all contacts with 300 grit and re-assemble and see what happens.

Your this far along I would suggest replacing the electrical bits with new ones or you'll be doing this again. Walker Truck Parts in Hesperia, Ca has the rebuild kits.

Great ! On the road again. Changed a lot of stuff, but what was the real problem.

This inquiring mind just asking, CAMO

I am definitely glad to be on the road! I don't know 100% what the "real" problem was, but I think I narrowed it down to the control box. The temp sensor is specific to the box and came with it. I read if you have a bad glow plug it can wreck the new box so I replaced them at the same time. I spent $200 on a rebuilt solenoid and was sent a different style so after weeks of back and forth looking for the correct one, I decided to get a rebuilt starter from a different place.

I kept everything and am going to get the correct solenoid for the old starter to keep as a spare. I will try to investigate if the box was bad as well but don't know how yet. But for now I was more worried about it sitting dead in my garage for another 4 months than I was about throwing parts at it. It is my only 4x4 and I was sick of driving in the snow with 2wd.

Thanks for the follow up. Colorado gets snow? Be careful and manage one's confidence / control in the big bad ass, go anywhere Humv. They can be a little squirrely in snow / ice / slick conditions. Know your rig and double check the others moving about.

Guess any rig can get sideways, CAMO
