Strong Fuel Smell from under hood

Hello I am new to steel soliders and this is my first m1009. I have noticed lately that a fuel smell is coming from under the hood, but i can not find any wet spots and any sign of a leak. Thanks in advance.

well if there is smell there is a leak. look at all rubber lines, return linrs (on injectors) feed lines ( from pump to injectors) and fuel filter. Also look at injection pump. If it has never been replaced its nearing its life end. (seals dry out, rot ect) I have seen many lift pumps (passeneger side lower engine) leak.

Look under the air cleaner with a flashlight (top of engine vally) if it looks wet it could be the pump leaking.

or the fuel filter housing leaks. mine did and it smelled like diesel all the time until I fixed it.

Check where the throttle linkage goes through the injector pump.. Mine started leaking there. Its a Teflon bushing that tends to wear out. Its a pain in the butt to pull the pump and rebuild it but it might be due..

Thnaks for the replies i will take a look there. The truck has 45,000 miles on it, but it sure sat a lot. That is a good place to start.

check the lift pump on the under the front passenger side of the motor, just replaced mine bottom bolts were loose and it was leaking.

keep a fire extinguisher handy, and hope you don't need it.
