It looks like someone cut four or five feet off the back US6's are 6x6 or 6x4 not 4x4 and the dump looks postwar. The front frame looks odd also? How is the JXD will it turn over? $900 is to high for a parts truck, $300 to $500 may be.

Trevorton is like 25 miles from my house (Gordon).

If you could PM me the address/contact info and I can look it over and find out all the things that need a finding out.

I could even store it for a bit (outdoors).

I agree... $900 is nuts. Depending on whats under the hood and how bad that frame is mangled $200-500 TOPS.

PA is not nice to vehicles in the open. I can already see door rot.. a real PITA to fix unless you have doors to replace them with.

Sorry i cant save it, too many projects already.
I bet it was used in the coal industry. I have some friends up there if somebody needs some help.

Guys that truck belongs to my grandfather. It is a 6x6 if you would look at some of the other pics you would see the rear axle is there. He is getting 9 cents a pound for scrap so that is where the $900 price comes from. Figures it weights about 10,000 lbs as it is. There is a snow plow mounted on the front of the truck and there is a title to the truck. So it could be registered without issue. The price of scrap will be up until the end of the year, so if someone doesn't want to save it by then it is going to get scrapped and we can all talk about how much of a shame it was.

Mike has more pictures. It might be best to get his opinion after he looks over it. that way it would be impartial.

I can tell you it is not a solid cab right now. It would take work to get it back together. but it is mostly complete ( passenger side window is gone. And it has a title. if that is worth anything.

Where is he getting $900 to scrap a truck?

PREPARED clean scrap of at least .250 inch is $0.09/lb. You engine, tranny, transfer is a couple tons and cast iron.

So you have the frame and axles. Maybe 4-5k

Sorin Iron and Metal *JUST* quoted me $5/100 for a 10k truck. They have to cut it up, process the fluids and tires.

That 10000/100 = 100 *$5 = $500. Cost to get truck to scrapper? Unless you know a roll back that's another $100 to start. It cost me $75 to tow a car from just S. of Lavelle to Hammers garage in Lavelle. Good luck getting a gut to rip it out for less than that. So his ?profit? MAYBE $400.

Sorin Iron and Metal is 570-462-0979

The days of $1k+ for a rusted hulk ended in late 2008-early 2009.

He speakith the truth. If he would be willing to go down on the price I imagine someone will buy it quickly. You might as him if he really cares how much he gets, he obviously doesn't care about the vehicle so maybe he will take whatever he can get. That's my 2cents

Paul,
I don't want to get into this here but your numbers are off.

You are looking at what you can get. You are not looking at what I can get. Until 31 December I can get 9 cents a lb. I got that price just last week.

I can move the vehicle without calling in a service.

Bottom line is if the vehicle is only worth scrap then it's finished.

I don't know if the enigne turns. The transmission, transfer case and rears should still be in good shape. If someone needs these parts they should be worth more then 9 cents a pound. How many are still out there. Where would you get parts if you need them and what would they cost.

I would like to buy dueces (M35A2) rears for 9 cents a pound. You can't do it.

And Paul, thanks for helping with the sale. :-D

Just consider what the old boy wants.... The plow and frame are probably adaptable to a deuce, the dump bed's scrap, and WWII Studebakers.... probably the russians loved Studebakers... Also compare to a take out deuce engine or one in the can, how do the numbers shape up? Me, I'm unemployed in Texas and no unemployment yet, so I don't have a cat in this fight, but if I were into Studebakers, I've seen guys do miraculous repairs on the sheet metal when they wanna cut them down and chop them, so are we worse off then the hot rodders in our skills? And he is right, PA winters are really hard on large machinery stored out of doors, even locomotives.....So if you could get it under cover, you'd be no worse off five years from now or whenever the economy recovers....

Just a depreciated .o2 worth,

Cheers,

Kyle F. McGrogan:-D

i would have to guess just the xcase, trans, both rears, drive lines, front end and all the special stud parts that are still there, is worth the $900 to somebody thats doing one of these trucks, just for spare parts. you cant go to auto-zone for this stuff. i would get the truck, pull what i wented, scrap the rest. figure the plow, bed, frame, ect is about half the weight, so the above might only cost you $450 and that would be a deal

I don't want to be antagonistic but if you are getting $0.09 per lb of unprocessed metal with attachments, tires and fluids WITHOUT any prep please post!!!!!!! I have the front end of a CCKW (about 4k) that I would *LLOOVVEE) to simply haul up and get (4000*.09) $360 for. That would buy me a new generator.

Studebakers were more Lend Lease than US (although I think the NAVY used them??)

Maybe let someone pick over the small parts for a fee. I've done that lots with CCKW trucks. No one needs a frame, but you do need the brackets etc.

I hope the owner makes a sane decision.
