Call me an old fart if you want.

We finally got an iPad Air for our work and this tapatalk add keeps suggestion I cannot live without it.

Actually, I can live without having to be online every minute. Most of my work involves work on PC anyway, and if away there are no emails that are soo important that I have to know it when I am on toilet or walking to the shop. I use my phones to call and make pics, don't need to use them for internet as well.
The iPad will be used for internet, but do I seriously need tapatalk for browsing forums on an iPad? What does it actually do? SS is the only forum I am on regularly, most others only irregularly and when sitting behind a very big desktop screen.

You do not need Tapatalk to work these forums on your iPad. I do a lot of browsing on my andriod tablet on here and a couple other forums that "recommend" tapatalk, but I do not use it. Haven't found a reason to yet.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. It gives you what you want to see from the forum without all the extra stuff you don't need to see. I use it all the time.
I would give it a try and if you don't like it and least you'll know.

I bought it, I've tried it and frankly, find it's uses limited at best. If I have an editing issue that I need to deal with, I'll use it but other than that, not impressed. I think it's on par with ebay mobile.

The one think what I am allergic about is that its add keeps popping up and its the next think that want me to make an account before I can use it or download it aua aua. .

Same with the android phones. I have a Samsung Galaxy S (first generation) that I just started using now and I cannot make a normal calendar entry without first adding a google account to my phone. I don't want google to know all my appointments, phone numbers, and email contacts, I just want to use a calendar to warn me for appointments. I think these accounts should be an opt-in option, not an "impossible to opt-out without it your device won't be fully functional" option

What I am now reading from descriptions and reviews, certainly the latest free versions are not really worth the hassle for people like me, but maybe I miss something, that's why I asked here.

I have a low tech flip phone, it has a calendar if I need it and does a GREAT job as a phone (the hi, hello use), NO G accounts, AND I seem to have survived WITHOUT taptalk, even though some people have told me that can not happen (maybe I died and do not know it, or since I am so old, I died and just forgot).

On a tablet, the app isn't necessary, because the screen is large enough to view the entire site. But on a phone (even a phone with a large screen like an Evo 4G or a Galaxy S4), the tapatalk app is much easier to use. It culls the unnecessary fluff down to the bare minimums: You see the persons username, their avatar and the post. I find it much easier to use than trying to constantly zoom in and out of the full site.

While I don't like corporations knowing everything about me............. they already do. If they aren't getting the info from your google account, they're buying it from someone you have done business with.

I lie google's calendar system, though. They beauty of their system is the interconnect nature. When you include other people in your appointments, they're getting reminders, etc.

If you don't want to use google's calendar system, there are plenty of apps for calendars that don't require or desire the same level of integration.

Are you logging out every time? I only get that ad after I have logged out, or I log in on a strange computer. I just close the browser when I'm done.
Speaking of privacy, remember when everyone's phone number, name and address was in the phone book? I bet Ron's is in there still!

I mostly close browsers and they log out everything automatically. Only on SS I sometimes stay connected the whole day, for the rest, when I am done, I log out.

True about the phone book, but apart from the NSA and the phone company, nobody is going to read through it. And from reading the phone book you cannot see when I have a meeting with who. BTW, I have to correct myself here, my grandfather sometimes did read the phone book. But that was only when he tried to make clear to my grandmother and her Sunday visitors that it was time for the visitors to go. If they did not get the message, he would ask, without looking up, if the people had gone already. That mostly did the trick (he was not the most social man to be honest).

Thanks for the tip about other calendars, never had thought about it.

Tapatalk in my opinion is a real timesaver when viewing SS from a smartphone, all of my ss site activities are achieved by smart phone.
Tapatalk expedites site navigation by 100%, it simplifies viewing and posting pics to threads,it simplifies viewing and posting text to threads.
With my smartphone using Tapatalk (or not), i can take high definition pictures or video and post them in real time anytime anywhere (except when driving) (signal provided).
There are many arguments that can be made when it comes to using a smartphone instead of a computer for social media, this is one of them!
