2duece- Yea it was kind of hard to restart after it died. I thought maybe it was out of gas and opened the gas cap. (don't know why) When I did the gas tank was pressurized like it vapor locked. Don't know why but then it started and I turned for home in a hurry! It had over a 1/4 tank in it. The surging is becoming more frequent but starts and idles fine. ???????
the gas tank should breathe....just a little. If it doesn't than it will not allow fuel in the tank to be pumped out and air to replace it. It works the other way too (positive pressure) but I cant think of why that would be a problem.....unless the fuel pump is just returning most of the fuel and the tank breather is clogged as mentioned before.
I think its really important to run some lube in your fuel to keep your IP healthy. They weren't designed for the ULSD we have now. Even the offroad diesel is ULSD only with dye added out here. I think 2 stroke oil is the best.
Definitely! 2-stroke oil is what I use too... It's cheap, readily available, and outperforms most of the commercial diesel fuel additives. I use a 200:1 ratio, which is 1 quart per 50 gallons on the deuce. On my M1009, I use 1/2 quart per fill-up.
I also run 2 cycle oil in my diesels. These old pumps and injectors where designed with a certain amount of lubrication coming from the fuel itself. Unlike motor oil and transmission oil which have additives to prevent burning off 2 cycle oil is designed to burn fairly clean and leave little to no deposits. Also you need to be careful when changing from diesel to gas. Some states have huge fines etc if they catch you. Where I live there is no emission testing for diesels but there is for gas.
