I committed to refurbish whatever necessary on my '69 NG truck brakes. Work, work + time gone and more work and the money gone. So what, I like the truck.

From the miles and hours on the truck I see that last time it was "fixed" maybe was back in the 80's or sometimes I think never.
This is the last of the six axles to be done. None of the axles had a keyway seal and all were improper in one way or a few ways;
springs landed in wrong place, blown or rotted or froze or non-functional wheel cylinders, bolts loose or over-torqued; wasted away shoes, bent hard lines to wheel cylinders, etc and all that You all have seen, and learned to forget and just fix it.

But I think this RR tandem, the last one is going to be interesting............

What makes you think the miles and hours are correct ? The military swaps gauges like tires , if something isn't working right swap it out.

now beyond just interesting 06192014

No tabs bent, no gasket, no keyway seal, no grease inside bearings, bent up dust cover, shoes wiped out and "frozen" in one place, forward minor adjuster broke off, wheel cylinder rotted away, broken parts all found, and I still think it is strange how far away a 1/2" lockwasher can disappear to.
Now I have to hit the books and find how to fix the adjuster.

Good thing you decided to check your brakes instead of just driving it.

At least now you will "know" what the condition is.

That's exactly right, any job worth doing is worth doing right, this is the same way I approach any used vehicle no matter what it is, start from the ground up and make sure the mechanicals are good first. Is the locknut actually tack welded? When there was a locking ring there that they didn't use?

Deuce brakes minor adjustor broke away how to fix

Deuce. Is this factory stuff as seems no TM says how it is originally fastened. It is broken away of top forward minor adjustment bolt/cam. I don't see how it was originally installed and can not figure how to fix it.

I have plan "B" but would like to fix now, while it is apart, for good.

Until I get in the hub, I am not sure about this, but they might not be considered "serviceable" parts, as in, the TM might consider that part of the backing plate.

I will let you know once I get in a hub.

I see now I put it in the wrong forum.

RR tandem forward minor brake cam fixture fail.

Fixed it.

The file should work now as it can be viewed maybe with win media player.

This one took some doing as it was assembled before the backing plate was hot riveted to the Rockwell axle. Would have been more difficult to make an external device to pull the spring and cam in so I made internal.
