I was going to post this little event Monday night, but I did not get any photos and you know how this crowd is. If you do not have a picture, then it did not happen... okay, maybe we are not quite that bad....

Monday night my telephone rings, whomever it was hung up before I could answer. That is a number I know very well, the local PD.... So I called back.

An embarrassed new dispatcher answered and apologized for calling me, she was looking for my brother and when she realized her error, my phone had already rung. Seems there was a problem out at the lake and they wanted to know if he was working out there. I told them I would call him and then call back.

He was attending something at the high school with my nephew. I called back to dispatch and asked what was going on. Rather than get things out of order, I will share the photos and the emails that made it back to me today.

The emails came in a series...

So when I called dispatch back, they told me that there was a truck stuck out at the lake on the Sandy Shore campground. The brother of one of the females involved is a good friend of mine, so I told her I would run out and pull him out. It is about 26 miles. My nephew wanted to go, so off we went.

By the time I got there, they had broken a couple of tow straps trying to jerk it with a 4x4 Ford. They had jerked it around and had managed to get it wallowed down into the sand until the front bumper was about two feet from the edge of the water and about two inches under the water. The water was about six inches deep at the bumper.

I had a hard time getting the deuce through the trees to the beach. It did not help any that there was obviously drunk people trying to give me directions. When I did get to the beach, I could not get turned around to pull off of the tail of the truck. I tried to back him out from three different angles. When all I got was sinking tires, I spooled off some cable and winched him out.

I apologize for the poor photos, they are off of an unknown person's cellular phone. They wanted to know what the owed and I told them a 20 dollar bill for fuel would be plenty. They had been pooling money trying to decide how much to give me and insisted I take it....61 dollars. 8)

We backed out of there and headed home. I hope the two staggering males did not drive out of there, but I suspect they did. The two pickups went blowing by me at Mach 2 on my way home. I did not find them piled up, so I assume they made it safely.

I know I had the truck at a disadvantage and I really hate hard pulls in reverse. Still, I was kind of surprised when I could not rock it at all with just the tires pulling. When I dropped the front tires in the holes left by my duals to help anchor me, started winching and it just idled them out of there.

The crowd was whooping and hollering and one of them staggered over to tell me that was one he!! of a truck and he was going to have to get him one. I wanted to tell him it would be a dangerous article to have around in the hands of a drunken fool, but left well enough alone. Glen

Yeah, WOW!

I was the go to guy when my cousins and other family were growing up and got into places and things like this, as I had a 4x4. Thinking back on all the stuff I AND THEY did growing up, were lucky to be here today!

Glad you could help them out.

Good job......you have more patience than I do working with drunks.
Unfortunately, I have 27 years of practice, thinking for people in one state or another that are not capable of thinking for themselves.

I felt bad afterwards, I should have stuck around to see that the two intoxicated ones did not drive. Hopefully the park ranger that had showed up took care of that...

If they were drunk and I was there, there they would've stayed. Almost got hit head on by a DUI that ironically I was on the way to the firestation to respond to his first rollover. Evidently he rolled it on the highway and landed on all four. Well that was good enough for him, so he kept going. Mean while someone had called it in and there I was in the mix. Him headed right towards me in my lane on three tires. He ended up rolling it again, and then started walking. Highway patrol picked him up a mile away. Hope his girlfriend had enough sense to dump him, it was her SUV he wrecked. Got no sympathy for DUI drivers. :soapbox:

Not much sympathy here either. My grandfather was on vacation in Colorado, they had a flat tire. He had changed the tire and was stowing away the jack and flat tire. Some drunk fly boys slid into him, pinching him between the bumpers and severing both legs. The first vehicle to come along was a nurse and doctor, but he had bled too much to recover. That was two years before I was born, for the first half of my life, I would run into business associates and friends. All I heard was what a great guy he was. I never got to meet him, but I did get his name. Glen
