Hello Everyone,

My name is Kyle Scheel and I am the military vehicle and reenactor coordinator fot the Thunder Over Michigan air show. The theme for Thunder Over Michigan 2012 is Mustang Mania! This years show is looking as though it will be as spectacular as ever. You can check out the airshow website at the following link... 2012 - Thunder Over™ Michigan Air Show -

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, Thunder Over Michigan is an annual airshow put on by the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It incorporates a spectacular array of WWII-Present aircraft and also a series of large battle reenactments. We have a large reenactor encampment and military vehicle display area and we are always looking to expand it. We welcome all military vehicles of any make or country of origin. We normally have a good variety of vehicles from WWII thru the post-Vietnam era.

The event is free of charge for reenactors and military vehicle owners/crew. There will be camping on site in the encampment area during the event. Lunch will be provided for registered participants on Saturday and Sunday.

We will be holding our annual THUNDER OVER MICHIGAN Air & Ground Parade again this year on Friday, August 3. The convoy and parade will include the military vehicles, reenactors, and some of the aircraft. The vehicles will have a police escort to and from the airport. The vehicles convoy from the airport to downtown Belleville. We then parade through Belleville with aircraft flying overhead. The parade ends with a static display for about one hour in downtown after which we form up and return convoy to the airport.

This event is a great time for all. One of the best parts is that by attending with your vehicle you get to experience a world class air show for free!

Please feel free to pass along this information to anyone who may be interested in attending or participating in Thunder Over Michigan 2012. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to send me an email or PM.

Thanks,

Kyle Scheel

Detroit metro would be the closest major airport.

Is the parade/convoy open to anyone with a military vehicle? Or is it only for the reenactors? I go the the show every year, but this will be the first year I drive one of my MV's.

The convoy and parade is open to all military vehicles that wish to join in. To participate you will have to be on site at Willow Run in the reenactor area by 4pm for form up, parade instructions, etc. Also I encourage any of you that wish to participate to register for the event at the following link: Thunder Over Michigan 2012 - Eventbrite

Just an update on the heavy equipment that we have coming to the show.

On the Allied side we have 3 half tracks, 2 stuart tanks, and a 57mm anti-tank gun.

On the Axis side we have 2 hetzers, 2 half tracks, a pak 40, a replica Stug III, and a replica Panther tank.

This should be a pretty impressive collection to see on display and duking it out in the battles.

Who is doing PYRO for the show? I worked with PYRO at a show in Texas and had a (blast)
Wait, that might not be a good word to use when describing PYRO.

In the past they have not done Pyro. Only blanks and gas guns. As always I will be there with the deuce. I may bring the new HMMWV also.

Cool Chuck - finally get to meet you. The wife and I will be bringing the M1074 and possibly the M1076 Trailer. This is the weekend after the TACOM show in Warren, so have to see how much energy I have left and how far behind on work I am! Dave.

Currently we don't do any pyro except during the reenacting battles and that is quite minimal. Generally our budget doesn't allow for anything too extreme.

Also it looks as though we'll be having a nice gathering of Vietnam and newer MV's. If any of you know anyone (with any type of historic MV) that is still on the fence on whether or not to come, please talk them in to coming out. They'll have a blast!

I will be there to help crew the Stuart tanks. We are not trailer queens, we drive around as much as needed by the event and put on the best show possible. We fire real blanks from all guns not gas guns. They sound more realistic. We have reenacted in over a dozen states, even took the tanks to France once. Hope you enjoy the show!
