Towbar stowage

Where do you stow your large tow bar on a deuce? I'm talking about the next size up from the medium.

Is there some way to bolt it to the side of the bed without modifying the truck or would I have to make a set of brackets for it?

Yeah yeah, I know, "just put it in the bed"... but man, it's HEAVY. It would be much easier if it was somewhere on the side of the truck.

I feel your pain. We have a medium towbar stowed under the box on my Dad's M-220 shop van truck. There was a ladder box somone built between the frame and the box. We put a board in the bottom so the towbar does not fall out. It works great. On a cargo truck I don't think there is that gap at the rear of the truck.

That large towbar is a royal PIA to deal with. I don't like having the towbars in the bed either........There is a space on top of the frame rails but under the front of the bed on my M-35 A2C. Mine has some cargo top bows stowed there. You can access that space from above the Pioneer tool rack or over the fuel tank. I just don't know if the area is wide enough for the length of the large towbar.

Other than that you could build a stowage bracket for the towbar that mounts to the outside of the bed. This is the best i can come up with quickly.

Not the best pic of it but I have mine mounted to the rigid panel of the dropside bed - just one ear that the lunette eye slides onto and a basket for the legs... Works great...

while this is a neat idea I believe it is nearing or just over the max load of the front axle on a deuce W/W. bjorn brought this idea up years ago if I remember right. might have been the max load on stock tires, can't remember.

Wow, really? I mean, it ain't that much more weight than most bubbas climbing onto the bumper to open the hood...

There is absolutly no way you can overload the front axle by putting the towbar on the front bumper, even if you had a winch mounted. A towbar weights 100lbs+-, the front axle and springs can carry 5 to 7 tons no problems. Don't forget the deuce is rated to carry a load of 2 1/2 tons cross country and 5 tons highway that 5000lbs extra on highway. Also when have you even loaded the truck to full capacity and kept the load on the truck. A winch will add between 500 aqnd 800 lbs with cable so a small to medium towbar will not affect the front even with NDT tires.
