To try to keep the info as accurate as possible a couple of minor points;
GM didnt care in the least about the USMC sales. They did not buy the right to the Hummer name from AMG until after the auctions. AMG did object and insisted that they all be restricted to OFF ROAD ONLY papers. They continue to this day to object and it has nothing to do with losing a civy sale as some people expound. It is strictly due to liability exposure and the resulting advice of their attorneys regarding the stance they should position the company in.
AMG does not take back old Hummers/Humvees to rebuild. There is no core charge on them. The HMMWV Reman Programs in LA and ME are run by a totally independent contractor, who was the high bidder for the contract which was issued by the DOD. The operation at the old Loring AFB in Limestone Maine is run by an Independent Authority Incorporated and set up with the assistance of the State of Maine called :Maine Military Authority. It is a highly successful program to date.
