US Mail trucks

Hi everyone.

I'm enquiring about liquidators that the government uses for the trucks and whatnot, I figure someone here would be knowledgeable and might be able to answer my question.

Call me crazy, but I want an LLV. Will the Post Office be disposing of them through places like GovPlanet or Government Liquidators? I've asked a couple letter carriers and they don't know. I didn't see anything on the Post Office website, nor did I expect to.

Are there different liquidators for military and otherwise civilian vehicles? Or do all government-owned vehicles go the same route? I figure it will be in the next couple years that the LLVs start being phased out.

Thanks everyone.

well I guess there may be two factors in term of that they were underpowered (old engine with little maintenances this long onward by now) tiny things and especially with no a/c altogether .. and I don't know what the general state of underchassis rust could be with these considering they were always running all year long except if snowing hard like nuts .. then now the second factor is that it would depend on what kind of obligations usps has written into the book on how to dispose of unwanted not-wrecked-yet vehicles

I only mentioned the latter because ups themselves for some weird backward reason have a "if we don't want it anymore its going be all crushed up period" obligation themselves so a highway tractor thats only had <400k miles on odometer and everything is still in good dot condition nevertheless still simply gets crushed up into a junkyard cube just like that

Apparently the contract has been awarded to Oshkosh Defense and the new vehicles should have started rolling out in June. Shame they don't auction the LLVs off, be a fun BBC project or big turbo 2.2. I would suggest contacting your local post office and see if maybe they can slip one out the back door, so to speak.

Edit: Wife had a much better idea, find out where they're being sent for scrap and try buying one from the scrap yard.

I've read conflicting things. That they will be taken care of locally, and that the PO isn't allowed to sell anything and they will all be scrapped. That being said I have seen LLVs out in the wild so someone knew something, or someone.

I don't want one to use, I just want one. Just as Americana. There are plenty of DJ5s around, but they are mostly hacked up. Thanks everyone for responding.

I have no answer to this. But I've wanted a LLV for a while. I'd like to have two actually. One to drop in a big block or something silly and make into a race car. The other, swap in a 4BT or OM617, add AC, sound deadning, radio, exc. Make a work "van" out of it that could get good gas mileage.

Occasionally I've noticed that govdeals has po stuff on their site, toolboxes, cars, wrecker, box trucks etc. I've not seen any LLV yet but who knows the vehicles all seem to have sf97 forms with them
