Planning on Joining!

Well, can count me and the wife in for the festivities.

Already putting the wrenches to getting the HMTT (High Mobility Tactical Truck) 5-Ton Prototype ready for the show. It was originally built by TACOM in the mid to late 70's as a "testbed" for the early 80's production HEMTT's (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck). They only built the one and they built it right at TACOM as opposed to contracting out for a "prototype". Should be great to bring it back home for a visit!

Hope we get a great turnout - grew up in Warren, MI, and there is a lot to do, eat, and stay at. Warren grew up around the production/engineering facilities for the Big Three Auto Companies (amongst other things) as well as the "Tank Plant" which was originally operated by Chrysler - so there is a huge amount of history (automotive and otherwise) in the area.

See ya there!

Need to find someone to pull the SGPRSMD over there. It's too far to push!

That is one type of truck that I have never ended up with - a road tractor. Bruce had his M983 HEMTT Tractor for sale for a while. It was really tempting with the brand spanking new Detroit in it! But as the cards fell, it was not to be. Looks like a nice trailer. I might be wrong, but did you put a post up when you got it? For some reason, I think that I read about it. Is it still complete inside? Looks really straight. Sometimes the gullwing doors get buggered up and I don't want to think what creativity it takes to get them to operate properly again! Hope to see you there! Dave.

Yes, thread link is: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/conversations/81927-sometimes-you-really-win-gl.html
It's pretty complete, missing the hand pump for the press, all the hand tools, the bench grinder, vise and all of the valve seat equipment. Has all accessories, cutters, bits, and tooling for the lathe and drill press. Rods, cables, and clamps for the welder are present. Engine runs but have fuel issues. Have not had much time to work out the bugs. Doors are fine, hinges are in great shape. Brakes, wheels, and tires are very good.

Made it home ok. Thanks to John Lind for putting this together. [thumbzup]
Thanks to the City of Warren.
I didn't get a pic of the police escort that was given to ParadeDuty's PLS with a MRAP for backup.
Here's a couple pics.

Hey there Highway -

The weather was as good as the roll of the dice could get you. We had quite the turnout of visitors including TACOM employees as well as the general public. There were quite a few WW2 Veterans that I got a chance to talk to (mostly listen to). Ended up having a pretty well rounded sampling of military vehicles - from very new to getting pretty darn up there, from light enough to lift out of a ditch by hand to heavy enough to require permits to ship. I believe that the reception by the TACOM organizers and the City of Warren organizers was very positive. Would have been nice to have had the vehicles closer to the other events (bandstand, game tents, information booths, etc.) but the damage that even one of these heavy trucks (at least 6 there were in the 40K to 60K range, and another 6 were easily at least 20K) could have done to the nice grounds at the fair would have been enormous and in the end put a damper on our feedback. Definitely a great time. Dave.
