Got my MEP-006A generator to run, it runs pretty good, I think.

Still need to figure out what to do about the ether cold start system. It does not seem to do anything.

The ether can's got ether in it right, and pressure?

Was that a cold start, or was it already warmed up? Seemed to be running very clean. (Didn't listen to the audio as my wife is watching tv next to me...) And what was the temp out on that startup? :?

Nehog, I gotta say that I would also look at improving the color of the text, it is hard to read indeed due to low contrast. Simply making the text lighter would do the trick. But I am very happy with the content of this forum.

Re: ether. The generator came with NO fluids, and NO ether bottle.

I bought an ether bottle at CarQuest, but it turned out to be too fat to fit. I had to loosen some bracket screws so that it would fit enough to screw in. Maybe something is wrong with how this bottle fits the release system, maybe it is incompatible with the ether delivery system. The mating threads, thuogh, fit just fine, but the bottle is clearly too thick.

The PVC line for ether was brittle and broke, and I replaced it with expensive Tygon line from McMaster Carr. Despite all this, repeatedly engaging the start assist switch when starting, visibly gets nothing into the line, and nothing in the intake manifold.

Re: starting. It needs a shot of ether (from a can) to start from cold in freezing weather. It does not start at 25 degrees from cold. However, if the engine is warm or at least not completely cold (after a couple of hours), it restarts easily.

The MEP 005a uses the long thin eater cans that are used on tractor trailer engines. Maybe thats it ?? Nice running unit. I need to pull mine apart in the spring. Its locked up tight.

Sgt Racing, would you recommend any retailer and item (ether bottle) that naturally fits this generator? Maybe I just used a wrong bottle.

Good luck with the locked up genny. Maybe you can take off the exhaust manifold and somehow add some Marvel Mystery Oil to each cylinder? Just a small amount. Is there some way to do it?

I know Fleet Pride sells them , Napa does also but there much more expensive for the same can. Also truck stops may be the place. If the ice stops I'll see if I can get a picture for you on the 1 on mine. Its also the same one on my M920 and deuce. it has a funny end on it thats different than the short cans like I use on my jd 710C. I'll try the Marvel mystery oil. I'm a believer of it. I just think I have a rod married to a crANK.

That's what I thought. I contacted DRMO/DLA because I had a previous issue with my M109A3 in MAY10. I contacted the same person from before and they assured me it'd be 4 weeks or less. She said they have less of a workload and more staff to handle the EUC's. I'm not holding my breath though. Funny thing is this is my 9th or 10th EUC to date. I guess it was my time:)

Maybe some moisture got into cylinders and rusted the walls.

Anyway, Re: ether, I will try Napa and truck stops.

OK, without reading a few more followup posts, in page 2, I will go out later today and write the numbers and info off my ether bottle. It is a commercial product (as mentioned they are used on semi's) and I'm sure the number will cross-reference. It is virtually identical to a propane cylinder used with hand torches, I'll put one next to it and see if there is a size difference.

Ether or not do not let it run out of fuel. I picked a MEP-006 that was drained of all fluids. It took a half a day and two of us sooked in fuel before all the air was primed out.
