Carnac may be able to tell you. If he can't, you could post the number and see where it fits in with known-year trucks, which is what I've done a couple of times.

Study the GL auction pictures for information on the main data plates of trucks coming up for sale. That will give you an idea to bracket in a build year.

is there any way to tell from the vin number What year the m939 series of truck is produced ?
Post in CARNAC's thread to be certain, but, in general, for M923s, I have found the following delivery date ranges:
The break from '83 to '84 was around truck #3000.
The break from '84 to '85 was around truck #7400.
The break from '85 to '86 was around truck #8560.
The break from '86 to '87 was around truck #9825.

Again, these are just rough divisions for M923 & M923A1 only, and I'm sure there are exceptions.
The cut-off for M923 to M923A1 is around truck #8100.

I've not really compiled the numbers for the other models.
