If you want to see probably one of the best thought out winch installations, take a look at a Swiss Army 4x4 Sauer truck. The winch is mounted behind the cab and has fairleads and pulleys built into the truck frame so it can pull front, back, left or right.....WOW!
I have not yet needed a winch on my deuce (It's an M35A2Wo/W) and would not have considered adding it before the Air-o-Matic steering, as the front end weight was too great, but I may reconsider. The front axle and spring system on a stock M35A Multifuel Diesel is already fairly heavily loaded compared to the gassers for which the setup was designed....
I'm amazed Uncle didn't specifically rebuilt with a 5 ton axle and spring set up, as the trucks are not all that radically different. Just my
worth.
