They look pretty solid, and it Looks like they would be just below the tailgate when it is opened... Maybe a bracket to attach a loading ramp for the dune buggy/heavily armed UTV?

They are one all the '09 airdrops (even the 'lil guys).

As I said, I wonder if it's an airdrop thing or just the very final A1R's. I haven't looked at the P variants yet.

Yea i put a 3ft extension in my 989a1 but those chains still reached had to extend air lines though . And im scared to ask how you know when to whip it out !

The M1082 safety chains won't reach if the hitch is extended.

The result is a sort of chain-jackknife long before full turn radius is achieved.

I'm sort of glad that I noticed it as I realized how dangerously short the safety chains are on the M1082. In rough terrain that "chain-jackknife" restriction can occur a lot sooner at steeper angles.

If i can buy build scrounge one of those tubes and the frame mount it slides in i think i would put the weld on loops to hang the safety hooks on the end of the tube on both sides of the pintle

It's part of the airdrop design on later A1 trucks. My 2009 BAE M1093A1 has it but my 2008 S&S M1078A1R doesn't and both have the upgraded alternator, coil over relief springs, etc. So far all late LVAD and LAPES/AD trucks I've seen have it (M1081A1 and M1093A1) but I've yet to see a M1094A1 with it though time will tell. If you scope out the pics below they elevate the truck off the pad to stuff equipment under it. It's possibly used as another weight bearing point and tie down point.
