What are you using for a 24Volt trickle charger?

Dredging up a topic that's been discussed here before but it looks like two of the models people like are now discontinued or unavailable.

So I am looking for a reco on a 24 Volt trickle charger to keep the HMMWV batteries charged over the winter (I don't expect to be driving much until the snow melts as I am afraid of salt corrosion).

Ideally I'd like to charger through the slave port but am open to all suggestions?

NO.CO makes some pretty decent onboard chargers.

or non-permanent type

They used to sell some smaller 12/24V chargers, but now the only 24V capable ones I see are around $500 and up, so unrealistic when you can use a pair of 12V maintainers at under $100.

I have one of the older version of this 12v maintainer and it works just fine

If you really want to just do 24V through the slave port, and can find a decent 24V charger, all you need to adapt it to the slave port is one of these:

My personal recommendation though, is to charge each battery individually with 12V rather than together as 24V, as it will keep the battery voltage equalized and help the batteries last longer overall.

Also I am looking for a 20 foot slave cable to jump a dead HMMWV as my friend's 1165 was dead the other day and we had to resort to charging each battery on a 12 volt charger, which took forever. If anyone knows of a Nato one cheaper than the $225 or so on ebay please shoot me a line.

Running your panels to the garage roof with wires running inside with a quick connector to your slave port works and is your cheapest option

Why not just jumper cables like @98G sells that you can jump 12 and 24v

I have three electronic 100 amp start capable 12-24 volt (Very VERY!) Smart recovery / mainenance pulse technolagy repair battery chargers.

All 10 vehiclesz in ouir barn are hooked up all day every day (And Nights, ), And no start or run down problems ever.
totally KO,d batteries ( Including Two 120 ah. 1200 cold start bateries) left flat FOR TWO WEEKS!! with switches left on in the 'ot Fug'.came back to FULL life after about a 10 days, But, come back they DID , to fully restored useable life.

And, Small fiddly smart charges (2 off each on each vehicle ) to do the same job on FOUR vehicles cost a lot more more than the three huge do it all (And More), chargers on 10 trucks!

If you have any 12V loads, the best approach is to use a dual bank 12V marine charger (about $100-150). This ensures both batteries are fully charged. Not necessarily the case if you connect a 24V charger.

Duh. Why didn't I think of that? I have the same thing on my boat. I am totally abandoning my original plan of 24 volt charge via slave. I will get the NOCO 2 bank charger, should I get the 5 or 10 amp version?

Amazon.com: NOCO Genius GEN5X2, 2-Bank, 10-Amp (5-Amp Per Bank) Fully-Automatic Smart Marine Charger, 12V Onboard Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer And Battery Desulfator With Temperature Compensation : Sports & Outdoors

the only reason to get a larger charger is if you expect to have to charge up the batteries from dead/low in a shorter amount of time.
Since the purpose here is as a float/maintainer, you can use the smaller one no problem.

Also, since it's almost that time of year, NO.CO has had some pretty good black friday sales in the past, so maybe go to their website and sign up to their mailing list.

For anyone that has used one of the 2 Bank Noco Gen5X2 10 amp or 2 Bank GenPro10x2 chargers on their HMMWV, have you used it with their new AC Port Extension mounted on the truck somewhere? Trying to figure out where that could go so I dont have to keep doors or windows open when and if its charging outside. I like the Noco permanent mount in concept, but If you permanently mount the charger in the battery compartment, do you still have to access it when you plug it in each time to select any options on the charger itself or to see the status, or have y'all come up with a more creative way to mount it so you don't have to remove the seat every time. Like @M1165A1 I was considering the slave port setup like Black Dog used to have in stock until I read this thread. Also, is there any issue with compromising your S3 box with a charger plugged in and the batteries connected to the truck? Thanks guys!

I’ve installed that port extension (from another maker) in my boat and it requires a big hole - NoCo shows it’s a 2” diameter port. You’d do better to use a 12 gauge extension cable run through the vehicle and terminating at the front or rear bumper with a normal AC plug dangling there, then just connect to an extension cord at your parking location. Just make sure the wall outlet is GFCI or you are taking a big risk.
