What did you do to your deuce this week?

I decided that I wanted to put new hoses on the Deuce because the two going to the water manifold were cracked badly.

Well my heart stopped, did I crack the block? Did I blow the head gasket?

Nope, I tested it and it was all coolant, oil was pure in the block so I guess this is what happens when you mix green and orange antifreeze.

Moving on, I removed the grille took off the radiator and all the colland hoses and belts. Also for good measure I took off the water pump for easy hose removal to the water manifold.

Side note, not having the flange wrench for the air compressor belt sucks. I used a comical oversized crescent wrench to take it off.

Cleaned the front of the engine to almost perfectly od green clean and put it back together with new hardware, belts and hoses.

She looks good and I have more peace of mind.
It's a good feeling to do a job well isn't it ! That is a job well done there "Mrmag1" .

It feels good, but I couldn't have done it alone. My friend Rick helped me out with his endless patience....... Which promptly expired when we put the grille back on lol. It's nice to have a retired Army maint warrant officer working with you.

Yes, it is always better to have a friend around to lend a helping hand.

I'm assuming that you don't always have a chance to work on your truck like I do, so this might be an option for you if you are combating weather a lot. Open the hood, slide this puppy over the engine compartment. You'll have just enough room to work in there and not get soaked! It's easier once you learn where all the pointy sharp parts are on the canopy frame too.

G'day everyone,.....



I'm assuming that you don't always have a chance to work on your truck like I do,..................

I only have the weekends at this point to work and or play and due to the size of the Deuce I only have the outdoors so weather as you see can put an end to any plans.

I am not in a rush so I can just wait for another weekend to free up and as we are coming into our summer down here good weather shouldn't be far off.

(I say this as we have a severe weather warnings and road alerts being posted,....)

According to an article that I read yesterday, 2018 autumn was the wettest on record for the U.S. Maryland is forecast to get almost 2 inches of rain this weekend, which will bring us to our wettest year ever, since records started being kept in 1870. We're something like 2 feet over average.

I have one of those "EZ Up" shelters and the thought did occur to me to use it to cover whatever area on the truck I'm working on. [thumbzup]

I went on a shopping spree for my Deuce today- 3 windshield panes, 3 sets of LMTV mirrors, 3 mostly there heater kits, a pair of wrecker worklights, set of wood chocks, complete with chains and hooks, 1 steel wheel chock, 8 sets of military battery clamps, several with jumpers to connect 2 batteries together, NON-saleable Goretex woodland camo sleeping bag bivy to make new water proof seat covers out of, and a couple of other things. :jumpin: Oh, and most of the parts to install a windshield washer system.

Today I pulled the fuel pump and tank, boy was she nasty!
The tank is clean on the inside (mostly) but the pump was dead and chuncky rust covered.

Well I found two working Parker 24v replacement pumps at a friend's house and wouldn't you know it as soon as I found out I had spares the original pump decided it was gonna work again after we cleaned her off some.

Installed blow out valves with pull cords on air tanks. Painted, buffed out lenses and reinstalled rear tail light modules. Rear passenger blinker hasn't been working. I read some threads that cleaning the contacts on the blinker assembly attached to stearing column could fix. I was doubtful, so i worked on the tail light module, traced and tested the wire all the way up the truck. After a few hours, I decided to follow the advice on the post. 4 little screws and about 10 minutes of work and the blinker is working great again. I make things harder than they need to be sometimes.

Spent about a 1/2 hour last night re-skinning my drivers seat cushion with part of an old Gor-Tex sleeping bag bivy. Came out decently, I think. Custom seat cover that is water proof, non "crunchy" with old age, and deffinetely unique-
