what is this filter for as it does not seem to attached to anything, Thank you

That is not a filter. It is an indicator that will tell you when your air filter needs to be replaced. It normally shows green. When the resistance to air flow through the air filter exceeds a certain limit the indicator shows red.

thank you for your reply i am still a bit confused though if it is not attached to anything and simply
bolted to the dash panel How does it work?
sorry if i am being a bit thick.

It needs to be hooked up or otherwise it is useless.

You look on the backside between the two mounting bolts?

Should be a copper or plastic pipe going to the Air Filter Canister.

When with a regular car things probably are straightforward.
With a 7 ton tactical military vehicle the operator owes it to everyone else to read and comply with the owners manual. Read TM 9-2320-361-10
