What have you done to your 10 ton this week?

Reference post 71 on lubrication: Hope you have a lube order so you don't forget anything. In addition to the aforementioned fitting on the bell crank for the air brake linkage there are grease points on the anchor pins for the brakes and many on the winch andn the winch driveshaft. If you can get the floor up there are more on the pivots for some of the levers going to the cab. And so on .
All I can say is WOW!!

10 tons are maintenance intensive especially if you are planning to haul anything heavy with them. They harbor many lubrication points that are unique to the ten ton and the ten ton only. Brake anchor pins, airbrake applicator valve linkage, live kingpin oil cellars, the winch, shift levers and so on. Don't make a move without and lubrication order and lots of grease.

I felt this fits this thread better than any ongoing one despite not being a 10 ton exactly. Same purpose, right?

After replacing all the tires, fixing wiring issues, broken air lines, and PMCS over the past few weeks the M1070 HET made its first long drive today for the Metal of Honor Parade in Gainesville, TX. She performed flawlessly on the 120-ish mile round trip. 45 mph tops of course, and she held it the whole way and may complete with a M123 for lowest MPG. :ROFLMAO: I filled the tanks the day prior and had 4 people approach me to talk about the truck. It helped soften the sting of the fuel purchase.

Just like the Army, we had to leave early Saturday morning to get to the convoy rally point to be escorted by police up to the parade grounds. So leaving at 0530 made sure we arrived at 0830 and ready by 1000. Something-something formation 15 minutes prior to.. you know the rest if you've been there.

We had 4 living Metal of Honor recipients arrive and were escorted in the parade. The vehicle turn out exceeded expectation with over 20 MVs in attendance. Most were jeep variants up to Mutts and we had a sprinkled variety of WWII pieces there including: M20, M4, WC's, etc. A M923, M109A4, and the M1070 were the only in attendance dating to the modern era of vehicles. Overall the parade was managed well and the crowd attendance was strong. Many other non-MV groups were in attendance too but we took point carrying the MoH guests.

The HET was a surprisingly smooth ride as well as quiet. It's more maneuverable than the HEMTTS I've had and that Detroit loves to scream. Foot to the floor and let the computer manage the rest. Having no load on the rear makes fast shifting a little problematic with the torque converter locking/unlocking between gears but that's remedied by finding her rpm sweet spot on the high end and just driving it like you stole it. I've still got little fixes to do and CTIS components to source. One day she will get painted and made nice-r.

I wish I would have known about this event. We could have brought our HET, HEMTT, MTVR, LMTV, and other various stuff we have.

I finally came across the elusive photo of a 2.5, 5, and 10-ton trucks all hanging out together in 1 frame for size comparison or just MV eye candy 😍

What's neat is they're all wearing the same vintage of paint scheme. Maybe they are all part of the same collection? - who knows. Definitely a good looking lineup!

The picture has a watermark that reads John Adam’s-Graf Collection.

I have had several of both, the diesel and the gas powered 10 ton's. 43mph is top speed on both, but I always went by the RPM's the diesel powered truck red lined at 3100rpm and I would turn mine up to about 2800rpm at open road speed the gas powered truck red lined at 2700rpm and I would turn it around 2500rpm open road speed.

And is that with a smile from ear to ear while rumbling down the road?

I was advised by the resident 10 ton guru to try to maintain engine speed as close to 2700 rpm as possible as that was the diesel engine's "sweet spot." On flat ground they would run, I had a M123/747 combination going 45 mph into Ft. Dix, NJ with a M60 tank on top on Rt 88 which is essentially flat. Upgrades were something else, same truck and load westbound on I 80 from Parsippany to Mt. Hope, 7 miles uphill, 45 minutes to walk it up that hill.

Time to give this thread a little juice..

I've come into the possession of a M1014 MAN K1 aka the "HEMTT's German cousin" as the Stig would put it.

It's a different type of machine I will give it that. Amazingly built but there's far too few out there so I'm proud to say I have one. Does anyone else in SS that's active own one or operated one?2022-11-02 15.40.42.jpg
