I cleaned up my Interior floor and treated it again with ACF50.
Had a ton of dirt that had collected in the nooks and crannies.
Now I’m good til spring at least.

Bought a 6.5 and 4L80E, both original '98. Putting a 4L80E in my resto-mod has been on my mind for a while and for the price I couldn't let this go. Even came with the transfer case that wasn't advertised. I know of a member here that spent double the money on just a motor (with turbo though) last week...

I'll have a spare 6.5 in case the one in the CUCV or K1500 ever blows. Will get the two 6.2 motors and two TH400s ready for sale now, get some more funds for the project.

Also, looong overdue (what's new...), I continued removing rivets from the chassis. What a time consuming, ****** job, almost done though.

Had the injectors from the Navistar 6.5 tested, one needed a new nozzle. Waiting for some copper seals to put them into the K1500 and then I'll have those tested to go back in the Navistar. Looks like the 6.2 from the donor M1009 has short body injectors as well, so I'll get those tested to have a spare set on hand. Will probably send the ones from the new 6.5 in as well. Doesn't hurt to have (lots of) spare parts that don't take up a lot of space.

Installed new glow plugs and changed oil and fuel/oil filters.

Wasn’t having issues with the glow plugs at all but it’s been at least 2 years since last changed and don’t want any issues this winter.

Oil change,inj pump and filters. I always thought this engine was louder than my others. It was allowed the day we picked it up from GL. I feel bad that I did not change it sooner,The motor is so much quieter and smoother now. Injection pump was a fun job with a 6 inch lift and 37’s.

Lol. What have you done to your cucv today? I have been using it for a mobile scaffold to give the house a wash down. I ended up using it to rip that smart meter right out of the socket when I backed into it .

But is the truck OK? That's the important part.

Good you can have a laugh about, we've all got plenty of those.

......... my M1009 is not with me yet, but .......... I always say that hard-to-find spare parts for old cars are bought when you find them ........ not when you need them ( then you won't find them ).

Very nice piece you have there. I never had much problems with that tried and true OEM part. A few pressure switches over the past 25 years but nothing more. I am as excited as you for the M1009 to arrive.

Been a while since I posted.

* Roll on bedliner $69
* Soft top ($900 oof)
* Rear tires (dry-rotted, $300)
* Change rear diff fluid (a nice shade of black coffee)
* Driver + Passenger door cards (~$275)
* Driver + Passenger rubber seals

Longer Ago:
* Transmission fluid changed
* All important rubber lines replaced.
* Master cylinder replaced
* Brake lines bleed, cleaned, converted to DOT 3/4
* Dash pad swapped with a freebie.

Think i'm just about passed getting out of it what I put into it :)

After having the hard-top listed on Craigs List for a month for "next to nothing", I finally cut it up and took it to the dump. The fiberglass needed a lot of work, and just held in the Texas heat when on the M1009.

TODO:
* At some point I want to get it a "nicer" olive paint job, but for now it's just rattle-can to keep body rust away.
* Weird... the lighting of that photo makes it look like gray + green. It's the same color in sunlight.
* Address some more of the leaks.. Damn transmission gasket is leaking slowly.
* Leaf springs are pretty rusted up, Rear is more "frowny" than "smiley" if you get my drift.
* Extend bed liner into cab area and patch some small rust holes near A pillar. This thing isn't really luxury.

A friend of mine saw an ad for a CUCV (I sneaked it into our WhatsApp group :rolleyes:) and asked me to go have a look with him. He bought it. :LOL: We went out for a bit of offroading, but unfortunatly my only drivable truck, the K1500, is over it's MOT so I had to bring my bike.

IMG-20201018-WA0023.jpeg

Previous owner installed a (GM4) turbo and body lift to clear 37" HMMWV tires. Truck is still 24V. Front and cab have been restored by previous owner, the bed still needs some rust patched up. Not a big fan of the exhaust coming up through the bed, my friend is still unsure. I offered him my K1500 exhaust as I'm waiting for a Diamond Eye to replace it.

I installed an XJ steering shaft. Definitly improved steering. Next up are some extra gauges; coolant temp, transmission temp and EGT. Boost is already there. Talking about boost, the waste gate actuator is getting vacuum from the pump on the rear of the block. I suggested getting a mechanical waste gate actuator as it's getting close to 15 PSI of boost now, way too high IMO without new head gaskets and ARP studs. Motor mounts looked a bit saggy so we will be ordering Energy Suspension motor and transmission mounts.

I opened the inside door of the garage last night to make sure both overheads were closed before going to bed.

I heard a strange rhythmic knocking, or popping sound coming from the driveway. :unsure: Put some shoes on and went outside the see what it was.

Turns out I left the Whelen siren/pa controller turned on in the 1009 and it had depleted battery 1 enough that its internal relay was disengaging and reengaging, causing the speakers to pop. 😒

It's been parked since the Gen 1 light issue. The new alternator should be on the truck for delivery today, so hopefully back on the road by the weekend (if stuff would stop getting in the way!)

Charge the battery asap. A discharged battery left discharged will be permanently damaged in short order.
