Just picked up a deuce in nj at mcguire afb in 4* weather--it took 2 hours to get on the base--we had to wait for an escort who turned out to be sitting across from us in a crowded waiting room--i called him on his cell phone to see where he was and heard a phone ring--it was him---he asked where our tow truck was and i pointed to my ford escort wagon--he then called his boss and the boss wanted to know where the tow truck was--i told him we were going to try to drive it off the base and the boss said come on in-- installed 2 good batteries--filled up the brakes--checked the oil--added antifreeze--dumped in 2 bottles of winter fuel treatment--turned on the power--pressed the start button and it started---very very lucky--bought the truck without seeing it--drove it home doing 25mph until the flat spots in the tires smoothed out and then 48mph--only had to go 35 miles--no heat in the truck but glad it kept running --surprised it started in 4* weather ---what is the lowest temp your truck started in--george

25 is my lowest without any starting aids. I'm pretty sure it would have done 20 with no problems. it never really gets any colder than that where I live.

LOL. I would love to see an Escort try to pull a deuce! I just fixed my manifold heater and the other day mine started at 30 degrees with a touch of the button. I am waiting for some really cold weather to see how it does. Most guys say their deuces will start down into the 10-20 degree range without too much trouble.

We had a cold snap here that was down in the 20's for a few days. Had to crank it a bit more then normal, but my rig started with out the heater or starting fluid, twice.

I think that the deuce is the best starting diesel I have ever been around. As long as mine has a good battery it fires right up. This includes some 10 below starts. I have never been able to check the flame heater because it is running before I hit the switch.

It was in low teens in for 3-4 days in WV last week. Mine started easy considering. I did use the manifold heater though. It did start up and die, had to give it a little throttle for a few seconds . Oil pressure come up pretty quick too.

been 0 - 4 the last week. I have been starting mine without the flame heater. Just pull the throttle out a bit, and hit the start button.

I was in AZ for a few weeks, and when I came home it was 0 out, and the truck had not been started in over 2 weeks. I started right up, without the flame heater.

That's pretty much what I have found to be true with my deuce also. Although we don't near as cold as some parts of the country.

gem1410, nice truck. Glad all went well on the recovery.

0 - 5 degrees F, One truck (with flame heater) starts on first press of the button - even if left for weeks (love that truck!). The other (ether start) with way fewer miles and hours is harder to start and takes a shot of ether before she will fire even at temps in the 20s. Both trucks have all new filters & fluids, & no leaks.

I think some will start easier than others, and you can't guarantee what a particular truck will do although I'm sure they can be improved if finicky.

I started mine a couple weeks ago when it was 11 degrees out. it cranked a little bit but did fire up. maybe some fresh batterys and it would spin over better. I cleaned all the connections as a PM. not bad i say :)

I have started mine at -7 and it started up easily. I did bump the flame heater once. It took a minute for the engine to smooth out which is due to the cold combustion chamber temps I am sure.

I've started my M35A3 at zero degrees with a sniff of ether. I've started CUCVs down in the low teens. I've started my M925A2 in the upper teens. I try to avoid starting my trucks in the cold (below 32 degrees) unless I absolutely have to use them for something.

Good job on the recovery- looks like you have a keeper.

Hasn't been that cold out here- lowest starting temp for me was about 18.

I don't think these trucks can tell the difference once it gets down around zero- some do good, some not so well....
