It all depends on how you drive it, what speed, and tire pressure.



14-17 on hwy is realistic if you don't drive like a moron. The Hummer H1 was and always will be a turd

Not as bad as a 1:1 TH400 aka 3L80 trans


I bet a 700R4 or 4L80E swap would net 1.5-3 mpg better based on the fact they have a overdrive 4th gear and lock up on the converter, slip does not equal efficiency

how do the 3speed 6.2's compare to the 4speed 6.5's?
top speed, MPGs, etc...
I've read that military fuel being different, the 6.5 develops problems when switched to regular civilian diesel after having run on military spec diesel for some time.
Is this true?
Is the 6.2 also affected by such a change?

Only way that plays out is long term wear from ULSD not providing enough lubrication vs the old style diesel and JP8. Ive yet to see any issues and if you are worried about it add a quart of 10w30 oil or 2 stroke oil to a full tank and call it a day. I have both 6.2s and 6.2s, 8.3L Cummins and 3116 Cat motors.

Wow! a full quart? seems like that would make a big difference.
do you add a quart every time when filling up?

Your tires seem to be different on the left vs the right?
Are they all the same tread width?
I'm looking for "newish" tires for mine, any recommendations(paved surface)? thinking of going with lightly used original issue Goodyear.
However I've been very impressed with BFgoodrich AT in past experience.

How's your oil pressure with the new gauge?
Also, where did you find the doors? seems like the fiberglass ones are hard to find for a decent price, so hoping for some kindly priced canvas for now.
Maybe I'll make custom aluminum ones on my plasma table once I get the truck home...

You only lift the body...not the suspension.
Any advice on doing a 1" or 2" body lift? Ive read the post on making a 1" lift: "Making a 1"HMMWV Body Lift".
However seeing some pics of the parts and maybe installation would be great...

Seems to me like the steering wheel angle might change and the airlift loops will stick out above the hood less by the amount of lift.
Any other adjustments besides just tossing some spacers here and there?
Using Hockey pucks for spacers sound like a durable and cost effective solution.

In realizing how far off subject I have gotten from the original Title of this thread... I started a new thread more specifically aimed at discussing body lifts. here is a link to the new thread "HMMWV Body Lift"

i have 2 radials and 2 bias ply right now. i would go with 4 bfg radials. there is place here in tucson http://www.alphatreadtires.com/ give them a try
I was able to buy 2 complete soft top kits with doors, bows and c-pillers new old stock from a guy in Pheonix for 400.00 ( no he dosent have any more)
i put on a 0-60 gauge since i have a 6.2 its reading 30 psi cold and 20-25 hot. my old gauge was bad and barley worked unless i tapped on it.
watch for corrosion on the connector for the tempature sensor that can cause high resistance and will cause the gauge to read higher.
the tires seem to be the same width..

So, anyone know the DEFINITIVE width from outside left to outside right of the tires on a M998 with the standard military wranglers?
The measurement would hopefully include the bulge near the base of each tire.
I've got to make sure it will fit between the fenders of my tailer.
Otherwise I may need to make the fenders removable for loading...

if your trailer is 84 like you say it will fit no problem..... 82 inches is what a 7500 gvw uhaul is in between the fenders to make the squeeze easyer inflate the tires up.

83 is more like what I have between the tires on the trailer.
The space between fenders is 81.5"
looks like I'll be making the fenders removable.

What did you tow your HMMWV with?

07 ford f150 5.4 4x4 was the tow vech. it should go on at 81.5 width but it would be tight..View attachment 582337
did they say anything about your tow vehicle and trailer load when you rented the trailer?

I'm probably going to have to load backwards if using my 14' trailer.
the ramps are up in the stowed position.
seems like I can gain about 1.5' by having the rear hang over the front stop on the trailer.

This has been coverd in depth in this and other threads. :deadhorse:
the reason I asked about the tow vehicle is because the "rental company" seems to have an issue with my 5.9 High Output 4x4 dodge 3500 crew cab dually being "too light". and that the HMMWV is "too wide" for any of their trailers. something about their insurance...

Any advice?
