What is this and what does it do?

Hello. I was cleaning the battery terminals and found this component (pictured) clipped into a bracket in the battery compartment. What is it, and what does it do? The markings on it are all scratched off. I see pictures of them in other rigs , but I can't find any mention of what it is, or what it does. Thanks

it tells you if you have enough electrolyte in the battery cells of a wet cell battery. Since they didn't put the batteries on a tray it can be difficult to check electrolyte level visually, so some bright light came up with this thing.

Remove cap, insert tip in hole, look for red LED indicating electrolyte contact/sufficient level...

Newer trucks got AGM's and this got filed under "Extinct" like the Dodo.

It's also about the most laughable excuse for "test equipment" I've encountered. Throw that thing away so it can't defile anymore batteries with it's "probe" please.
