What is this and what does it do?

Hello. I was cleaning the battery terminals and found this component (pictured) clipped into a bracket in the battery compartment. What is it, and what does it do? The markings on it are all scratched off. I see pictures of them in other rigs , but I can't find any mention of what it is, or what it does. Thanks

it tells you if you have enough electrolyte in the battery cells of a wet cell battery. Since they didn't put the batteries on a tray it can be difficult to check electrolyte level visually, so some bright light came up with this thing.

Remove cap, insert tip in hole, look for red LED indicating electrolyte contact/sufficient level...

ON MY TRUCK IF I TOUCH THE PROBE TO ANT HOT POST IT LIGHTS UP RED 12 OR 24 ON MY BATTERIES ! I THOUGHT IT JUST LET YOU KNOW THAT POST WAS POSITIVE/HOT +
