What is this on the floor board passenger side

Hi, I am finally getting to cleaning up my floor boards. My M1008 has passed through a couple of hands and had multiple floor mats and pieces covering up some rust and this thing. I was wondering what it was and if I should remove it. I know it is a bracket of some sort from the manual drawings, but it is never described.

Any ideas?

it is a mount point forthe M-8 chemical detector mount. the mount is bolted to the plate on the floor and the M-8 is installed in it.
