Enjoy these pictures. They show how cramped the fighting compartment was and how ammo had to be pre-positioned creating a cluttered situation.

Note too, the great nose art.

Not quite as cramped as you might think but you do have to feed the hungry beasts at 4 rounds a second, they are thirsty. You need 2 people to move and load a 4 round clip into each gun every 2 seconds. Hence they often ringed the basket with them. The gunner and the operator of the computer bail sat forward on each side of the guns. For prolonged shooting the driver and vehicle comander often helped feed from the storage boxes beside the basket. They also had to move occasionally as the spent casings would pile up under the vehicle quickly, they discharged through the bottom of the hull. 40MM cases are quite big . . .

I've seen 2 for sale in the last 10-12 years, mine was the best at the time but who knows now. The 900 cu.in. supercharged 500 HP gasoline engine is VERY thirsty! About 1 mpg at cruise. At 10.5' wide and at 50,000 lbs. it's a pain to move.

Most of those we've seen are now diesel powered, we're just completing a cosmetic restoration on one for the VFW post in Bellevue, Ohio. We really think that if we rebuilt the starter, it might light off!!!! Its a nice rig, came from an outfit out west when last rebuild was done at depot level, most likely here in Ohio it served with the 2nd 174th ADA out of Marysville, Ohio. Really nice units and the Viet Cong had a real nickname for them, "green dragons" due to the amount of rounds down range they produced, while the crews considered the fire missions as "mowing grass" They were good at convoy escort work and breaking up ambushes.

There have been quite a number on loan to VFW's but most if not all are still US Govenment property. There are fewer owned by individuals, I had paperwork from the Secretary of the Army giving up all rights to my vehicle with it's serial number listed.
