What the heck is it? (evaporator covers)

Just won an auction from GL for a bunch of stuff that unfortunately included 155 Air Covers for Evaporators; unopened, unused in original boxes. So... what are they for?
Just curious because unless someone wants a few of them (or all) they're going to the scrap yard. I can't think of anything I can use them for. They are made of thin sheet metal and painted black.

Probably could have MULTIPLE USES as either covers, containers, heat shields, patching panels, etc.

Here's the auction picture:

After searching around, it apparently fits a HMMWV.

Possibly a cover for the A/C evaporator.
