Radio

I just got a M1009 last Thursday and am considering put in a radio also.
My thoughts are using a large ammo can as a console between the seats and mounting the radio and speakers inside the ammo can. Anyone ever done this?

That is funny, I have to .30 cans for speakers on the rear wheel wells. Also looking into the truck type wheel well storage boxes too. I do have a K5 console I out in, nice to hold my coffee cup. If i don't cut the dash i might be able to put it in the console and just run my ipod from it.

That idea goes far enough back that we had one with a 8 track stereo in the back of our mortar fire direction Center Gama Goat in 1976(?) and got the idea from an "old timer"

We had to use rubber shock mounts to keep them from rattling apart. I don't think modern solid state stereos would be as fragile.

I just ordered a marine stereo off of Amazon for about $150 that uses the "remote" as the entire control face. So the remote in this case has the digital read out, volume, channels, etc etc etc. The part that would normally install in your dash goes up underneath it anywhere you want. So this way I not only don't have to cut up my dash but I retain the look of how the truck was issued to the military. When you aren't using the radio or don't anyone to see it you can just throw the head unit in the glove box.

I think this radio will also have a another value add as it may discourage theives. I already don't have much in the truck and who would break in when there is no radio, no anything laying around in there? Or so they think!

I ordered the radio Sunday so it should be here any day. I will take a lot of pictures of the set-up.

Hmm I hadn't noticed that and it's way at the bottom of the description. I'm not too worried about it though. The cable is 10ft long so I can make it work. I'll take lots of pictures of the install for everyone.
