This may help. G503.com Message Forums • View topic - What year of production is SN 7xxx?

I'll post a pic of where the body # is located tommorrow.
Body number is stamped into the body at the base of windshield - in front of the a-pillar frame - right in front of the windshield gasket - about 8-12" in from the edge of the truck on the flat part. Hard to see if the truck has been repainted several times.

Hopefully your number matches your data plate. There is good evidence that at some of the auctions the data plates were pulled out of a box when you bought a truck - and not actually attached...

Cheers,

Clarke

Here is a picture of where the serial number is on the a-pillar. Someone ask me in a pm which I deleted prior to answering, so I thought I would post it here. I hope this helps.

I believe they started the task of looking for one vehicle to replace all the many different vehicles much earlier of course before the build. I have a data plate serial # 000080 for an M-997 built 5/85

That number on the A pillar isn't really the VIN number, it's the secret number that If you have a contact in AMG can tell you everything you'd ever want to know about that specific vehicle. Manufacture date, original order configuration, revision level, etc. The actual VIN number on the early HMMWVs is a 6 digit number stamped on a data plate that's rivetted to the lower left corner of the B pillar. It's also one of the the plates that got cut off of the auction HMMWVS. On USMC vehicles it's sometimes found rivetted into the depression on the side of the left rear quarter panel that also got removed. This leads to quite a bit of confusion because the data plates were given to the auctioneers but there's no guarantee that they got matched up to the same vehicles as they were auctioned off. So the A pillar number information might not match the B pillar information.:roll:GREAT HUH???:roll:

It really doesn't create problems because there's still only 1 vehicle with that particular VIN number out there.

Does anyone have a contact in AMG? My M1037 is a pre-prodution prototype and I would really like to know how they managed to bend the frame.

AMG doesnt support civy HMMWV owners AT ALL... . They dont want us to exist. I'll be amazed if you get past the "I have a Ex USMC HMMWV, and I was looking for info on it" "CLICK".................
