When Do We Need Power Steering?

When I pulled mine out I just torched the column right at the box and with a little wiggling it came out. I put the new box in and out several times to get it right and never touched the motor.

Are you saying you bolted on a replacement for the original? Or did you find a hydraulic power unit from another application?

I did the same conversion Gringletaub did with a ross hf54 box and a 5ton power steering pump.

Absolutely It took maybe 80 hrs for me and a friend in his driveway and some mods to the frame but it was totally worth it to me.I will probably be adding a ram assist to it to take the pressure of the box and the pitman arm but right now I have a blown head gasket that needs replacing so maybe in the spring.
